I am interested in a diamond located on goodoldgold.com. I have made my decision between this stone and a G/VVS1 1.02 Carat stone from solomonbrothers.com. I need to know if anyone has any experience with goodoldgold. Here is a link to the diamond I am interested in.

I really like how the light performs on this diamond. My only concerns are the clarity and the price. I see where it shows the small inclusions, but will these be noticeable with the eye? Also, does anyone know if this company will negotiate prices? I will be purchasing a diamond tomorrow probably, so wish me luck

A lot of people on PS have used GOG and have been very happy with their experience. Do a search to read more.

I'm currently working with them to find a diamond for me. They've been great to work with.

I bought a diamond from GOG just last week, and I had a wonderful experience with them. I also have a beautiful diamond now.

Jonathan is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. You are in good hands. If you are worried about the inclusion, ask Jonathan. He should be able to give you the answers you need.

Here's the thread documenting my experience. It's very long because I am new at this, so I tried to be very careful. (Link to my Thread)

Thanks for the input. I will definitely call tomorrow, so I can ask some questions about this diamond. The only other question that I have for you guys is on the pictures showing the brilliantscope analysis, I notice the horizontal dark spots in the center of the diamond. Is this what people keep referring to as the bowtie? And if so then is this a terribly bad one, or is it about normal for a marquise? Thanks a lot.

I haven't bought from GOG, but would trust Jonathan and his selection of diamonds. He not only knows his stuff, but he gets rave reviews from everyone.

As for a clarity of VS2, I say go for it! It will absolutely be eye clean, and you'll be getting more for your money (clarity can really increase the price of a diamond).

Yes, make use of Jonathan's excellent service and knowledge. You will be paying for it if you purchase his diamond anyway.

I'm another satisfied customer of GOG!

Jon is awesome to work with - you're in good hands there!

That is the tiniest bowtie I have seen on a marquise diamond! Not normal at all, but in a very good way. Also, the VS2 inclusions seem quite small. Probably not visible from any view. Good luck on your conversation with GOG tomorrow.

EHHHHHHHEEEEMMMMM!!!! You're welcome for the link to the diamond....

And yes, I've used and am using GOG. You have nothing to worry about.

The inclusions seem noticeable... at 30X

They should dissapear in person and it would likely take me some time to locate them at 10X...

Price is yet another matter, but asking for a marq with good brilliance is quite the same as asking for the proverbial needle. VVS is much easier to find

Besides, there is a D-VS1 in the neighbourhood (LINK) - different shape, about the same size and definitely as good light return more 'veenly' distributed. Any thoughts

Hehe, sorry moremoremore. I do owe you for posting that link for me. When you first posted it, I didn't even realize that it was a company. I thought it was just some information on a diamond. This place is starting to sound really good from all of the positive comments you guys have made.

I just hope he will be willing to come down a little on the price, because I do have a budget and if he can't then I will have to resort to my other option. Oh well, either way the smile on my girlfriend's face two weeks from now will make all of this 'hard work' worth it.

valeria, I had looked at this diamond also, but I saw where people said that the medium blue flourescence on a D color diamond is not necessarily a good thing. That was the main reason for me not choosing this one.

The 1.11ct D VS2 performs very well for marquise. As for the price, I would expect a little better symmetry for $6k, but it will hardly be noticible... except maybe in diffuse lighting AND if your staring intently at it.

As for GOG, I can't say enough good things about them. I was a VERY annoying customer and they treated me with patience, kindness, and professionalism. They even got me a great rock!

Even though Jon is good about responding back via e-mail... YOU MUST CALL in order to work with any speed. They have a vacation coming up soon, check their Web site for more info.

I think it's a fair price. If you're on a budget, consider going down a color grade or perhaps aiming for a carat weight under 1ct. You have plenty of room for compromise and it will still be a great diamond!

Both these guys are very impressive ! However, the more evenly red I-scope picture of the D-VS1 makes me preffer it. The Brilliance scope results are not helping much to tell these two apart, as far as I know.

I see... and to some extent tris is true - more than "faint" fluorescence would cause a discount for a D-F diamond. A decade ago it would have been a premium! This is just saying that yes, there is some pricing effect (so VS1 and VS2 come at about the same cost due to it) but there is only a very faint, if any visual effect of the fluorescence.

Anyway, there is hardly a reason to prefer one of these stones over another.

jashmore- i really do crave attention and praise..lol

GOG is the first place I look when I see someone looking for a stone...all the info and analysis is right there...J makes it easy for us!!!! He might be willing to neg if you pay cash maybe...how much I'm not sure...Keep in mind that his prices reflect the service he gives and also the fact that you can upgrade for life by spending only $500 more! Good luck to ya!!

Well, if I tell him that if he comes down to $5500 and I offer cash for a purchase TODAY do you think this will have any effect? I really do need to make a purchase by today or tomorrow though, because I still want to have time to look over the diamond, perhaps get it appraised, and figure out what I'm going to do about the setting.

Perhaps I will try to buy a setting from him also if they have what I am looking for. Maybe this would help him come down to my price range on the diamond also. I definitely don't want to sound rude or disrespectul to the guy, but I am literally in crunch time here.

p.s. If anyone wonders how I am always able to reply immediately after someone posts it's because I literally have nothing to do at my job

I would not bet, but it can't hurt to try

If anything, this is not allot to ask, and Jonthan may have some alternatives to offer too. settings ? definitely. On the "Show me the ring" forum there are a couple of rings made entirely (stone and setting) at Good Old Gold for ref, if this helps.

that's quite a bit of a discount though considering that the profit margain is only about 10%...

I bought my ering from GOG and Jonathan and the whole staff was fantastic! Even when i did my trade in, they were with me 100% of the way! I would never hesitate to recommend anyone to them..
good luck with you stone! please post pics when the ring is complete..we love pictures!

Here is the setting that she likes. This pic is from bluenile.com and the baguettes are 1/6C t/w, and it is priced at $1,050. I'm not sure if I am doing this picture the correct way though....

The setting looks like a simple enough catalog model - somethis that can surely be found on GOG's Ingwer catalog ... You can also check at leoingwer.com although their "recommended retail" is not necesarily the price you will be quoted. Also, these off the shelf settings may not come with side-stones matching the high grades of your center stone: unless a solitaire is out of the question, I would ask about this.

Can someone give me Jonathan's e-mail address? He told me to send him an e-mail, and I sent one, but I wasn't quite sure if it was the right address. Thanks.

I should have it [email protected]
But I suggest calling instead of emailing..the dude is busy!(probably responding to my 1000 emails!)
1.gif

Yes... Call, call, call. It's the only way to get anything done for certain!

I called him on my lunch break, but he wasn't able to go quite as low as I had hoped on the diamond, so he told me he would send me some specs on other diamonds he had in my price range. That is the e-mail address I used, so I guess he is just busy today.

See that's the great thing about Jon. If he doesn't have what you need in your budget... he WILL find it for you if you want.

Well, I finally made a purchase!! I got the 1.11ct D VS2 diamond that I wanted. Thanks to everyone for all of the help and for recommending goodoldgold. Thanks a lot also to Jonathan for negotiating with a poor college student on an already fair price.

Now all I have to do is get a setting and this exhausting process will be over. Thanks again guys
