Hello Psers-

I am going to be in NYC for the day later this month and my BF suggested we try to look at some diamonds so he has a better idea of what I want. (He isnt sold on the buying online thing YET- when he sees the price difference he may change his mind) A friend said I should contact Abe Mor (she got her diamond there) and I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of them? Looks like they are diamond cutters??

I have contacted Mark at ERD as well as facets (signed pieces) to view some eternity settings
I would love to get to GOG but I am not sure if we have the time to go out to LI and back to catch our train home.

If anyone has heard of them please let me know the good the bad etc.....

Thank you

Kgulley

Bump.....

....anyone??

I have never heard of abe mor,( but i didnt do any diamond shopping in the city) but i do live on long island and i got my e-ring at GOG and highly reccommend going there...its about an hour train ride into Massapequa from Penn Station, hopefully you can work it into your schedule

I was weary about buying my side diamonds (1.54 total) online, even though many people have had good experiences. I got a referral to Norman Landsburg Or his son jeffrey) at 66 West 47th in NY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. He is a no nonsense guy who has a very generous supply of diamonds on site, and who is not looking to cheat an out-of towner. He also takes credit cards, which many there don''t.

If you have never been diamond shopping in NY, you are in for an experience. Try to go to jewelers that people have referred you to. There are a lot of diamond dealers who are not trustworthy.

Thank you Trevor9606 and DRSDMS!!!

I also read in another thread here on PS to see Michael Jay on 5th ave...soo I have emailed him about a few stones i saw on his site (hoping to get a better idea of what he carries before I make and appt with him)

So far I have appts with Mark at ERD (Gary his associate is sitting with us since mark will be out of town) and with Abe Mor, who is a refferal from a friend. It does worry me slightly that Abe Mor isnt known by PSers...

Thank you for the heads up DRSDMS, I have read many things about the diamond district here on PS and I have never really had the desire to go to there (since I was pretty set on getting my stone from GOG or Whiteflash) but my BF wants to see more stones in person so I told him I would go only if I could pick the places we went and not just have us roam around aimlessly.

I am thankful for PS because I have been doing my research since september and I now know what I want, what I can get for my money at places like GOG and whiteflash and how to gauge if a stone is of the highest quality! So thank you to all everyone who teaches me something new everyday on PS!

i recommend ID Jewelry Online since they''re in the diamond district (8 west 47th st booth 71) too. i''m actually working with them now with my e-ring. they pretty much have access to a lot of stones listed in ps as well as other stones. just don''t forget to mention you found them on ps to get even better deals.

good luck on your search.

I haven''t heard of the other two you mentioned, but I would highly recommend both ERD and GOG. Since they are both close enough to you, it seems like a no brainer to me to work with one of them!

I just wanted to update you on my appointments in NYC yesterday 4/23.

Signed pieces was great! Their quality seemed on par with what many PSers have said it to be! Their eternity settings were sturdy, well made and the diamonds used in the setting were of high quality! I think we will go with them for my setting to save some money and splurge on the center stone.

We also met with Gary at ERD (engagement rings direct) and he had some amazing stones for us to look at! He even printed out all the certs for me as well as an excel spreadsheet as a quick look to the stones he had pulled for us.(and he let me take them with me to look over!) I got to use an Idealscope for the first time! and I got to view the hearts through another gadget (not sure what it was called)

I was hoping to view some AGS stones, but all of the stones he had were GIA excellents all I color. (not a bad thing but I was hoping to compare an AGS with a comprable GIA stone to see if there was much difference.) I would assume NOT when you are dealing with such a well cut diamond??

Gary had a 1.70 that I liked the best out of the 4 stones he had for us.... here are the specs:
1.70
I
SI1
GIA excellent cut
polish: excellent
Symmetry: Very good
Flour: none
Comments: surface graining not shown....(i looked at this stone through a loop and idealscope but didnt seen anything??)
Laser inscribed: H&A
Table 56%
Depth 61.8%
Crown:35.0 degrees
pavillion: 40.3 degrees
dimmensions: 7.64-7.67-4.73mm

in person this stone was definately a stunner, the only thing that worries me is that the inclusions are a bunch of very small feathers along the edge of the stone. I could see them with a loop but it was definately "eye clean" from 6-8 inches away
does anyone see anything about this stone that would turn them away? I ran the HCA and it scored a .9 and was within the AGS 0 range (solid white outline)

My BF felt very comfortable with Gary and he would be happy with work with him so after our appt. I asked him to see if we can find anything larger in size (I was hoping to be at a 1.75+) I know its splitting hairs with mm on some diamonds but I tried on a 1.77 and really liked that size better than the 1.70. He is going to keep looking for me and let me know what he finds!

Abe Mor- I was in and out of there in about 5 mins, my BF was quite impressed at how quickly i eliminated all 4 stones they had for me to view. (small tables, too large tables, poor cuts) I could tell right away that their stones were not as well cut as the ones gary had pulled for me...the person assigned to us also stumbled upon my questions, something as simple as...what is the cut on this stone? he said excellent and it turns out (after i asked him to please pull the report) that it was actually a VG cut NOT excellent. needless to say, i do not recommend them to anyone looking for a well CUT diamond. Also their prices were much higher than many Excellent/ideal cut diamonds I have seen in the same size/color range

anyway I just wanted to update you all and to give a quick review of my experiences in NYC!
Any thoughts on the stone above would be appreciated!
