It's a big year, 10 year anniversary, special birthday, started college for a new career.... while I have a plan for a 3 stone ring that is incredibly sentimental, plans can change! I can eventually get both, right? ;)

I love the idea of a large solitaire, and I *think* I like blue nuance (but have yet to see it in person), and found this stone. Following in the footsteps of KimN, I'd get it recut to a transitional, but I can't tell if the video quality is poor or if the stone looks a little hazy? Also, is the stone a little tilted in the video or is the cut actually not all that great? Would it be nice enough to wear in a simple solitaire until I got it recut and reset? @DejaWiz , any thoughts?

Okay, I'll get back to my class work now....

I don't know anything about these technical things but congratulations on all the good stuff! I hope the diamond works out for you, too, it's gotta be something to see that in real life.

i went back in my early 40s and got my master's, then, shortly after, my post-master's. I'm not even sure why it took so long, I always wanted to go back. It was the best decision I've ever made. I love what I do now and it improved every aspect of my life. I hope you find it does the same for you.

Happy birthday, happy anniversary, and best wishes!

Oh, this sounds like an exciting project!
Definitely is a blue nuance HPHT with mild-moderate saturation.
The diamond is a little off center in the holder, so it's hard to fully judge.

Thank you for sharing your story with me! It is wonderful to hear that it improved every aspect of your life, I'm hoping for the same here. I wasn't quite expecting a complete career shift at this point in my life but I sure am grateful for all the opportunities that aligned to make it possible.

As far as this diamond - I'm not certain I can convince my spouse to let me purchase it unless I am 100% convinced this is a great buy. I reduced my work hours dramatically to accommodate school (I'm actually taking the entire month of January off). So, mostly dreaming, but could maybe be a reality?

Aw, thank you for confirming the oh so slight tilt... what are your thoughts on the 35/56.5/40.7 combo?

You're welcome. I think that combo is a dream come true! 15% crown height should aid with dispersion/fire. The medium to slightly thick girdle should make it as durable as a tank.
Keep in mind that blue absorbs yellow, so the effect of fire may look a bit different than what we're used to seeing with colorless or near colorless diamonds.

 That's what I thought too! The moment I go from looking at diamonds for others to contemplating for myself though, second guessing comes in hard. My mind is searching for ideas on how to convince DH to let me buy it to see it in person and return if I'm not 110% in love with it. :evil2:

As you undergo your search, keep in mind that there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to how IGI assigns color grades to Type IIb diamonds with blue nuance.
Below are two examples of obvious blue nuance diamonds, and you can clearly see that the better color grade has much more saturation.

vintageinjune here is the same 4.70 I VVS2 at a PS vetted vendor for almost $2K less!

IGI report LG468184281 matches!

Have them throw it in a cheaper setting that you can find (if you're going custom from elsewhere) and save even more!

Congrats on your big year! Those are some huge milestones!

I'm so excited to see this project unfold!

Are you wanting this to look like a somewhat true antique after the recut? If so, I would advise looking for a diamond without blue nuance. The blue hue may be at odds with the antique style cut.

For this particular stone, you may lose a bit of diameter in a recut. I was advised by forum experts to keep all the pavilion mains above 40.45 to avoid obstruction at regular viewing distance. The cutting of the pavilion was done to a tolerance of 0.2, so my pavilion was cut only to 40.7 to make sure all the mains stayed above 40.45.

Thank you, it's a crazy big year ahead and it is going to be weird but amazing.

I'm not entirely sure when this project will unfold (I may just go back to my original idea, terrible photoshop idea shared below), but if this is the one I decide on this year I fully expect a loss of diameter (I really just want to hit the 10mm mark, so figured starting with 10.5mm + is a good way to go, but until I have the approval to spend the funds, I don't want to bother someone with inquiring about the specifics of what it will take). Also, thank you so much for sharing your number specifics, yours is just amazing and I have fan girled over it since it's debut. ^_^

As far as looking like a true antique, I do not care about that! I want a quirky, unique diamond that pleases my eyes. This is subject to change upon real life viewing of a blue nuanced diamond of course.

Idea for my 3 stone ring that would be a 3+ carat asscher, emerald halo, sapphire side stones and there will be 1 ruby and 1 garnet on the inside of the shank:

Aww, thanks very much for your kind words!

Your 3-stone idea looks absolutely incredible and would be an amazing WOW ring to commemorate your year. If you end up doing this one first, I can't wait to see how it turns out!
