Many of you know that I have the fever, the Mahenge fever!! I won a second stone during an auction from GemBuriOnline. It was described as orange pink. The culet is off center, but I hope to use it as a pendant where that is not a distraction.

But I wanted to show you my two stones side by side. The one I''m using for my ring is 1.73 carats and the second stone is 1.60. But the really fascinating thing is the fluorescence of the smaller stone! I would describe it as purple orange. This stone glows with an internal light like a lightbulb!

The first picture is in indirect light. The second is outdoors in bright sunlight. Enjoy!

Uppy,
The first looks to be sleepy/silky whereas the larger one is crystal clear. The advantage of this silkiness is that the stone has a tendency to glow and never blacks out.

It doesn''t have the amazing red flashes and sparkle of the cushion, but I love the silkiness and glow.

Great find Uppy!

Don''t forget to repost this and more pictures when the new Pricescope version is live! Thanks!

I like the silky glow and the blue flashes. I hope you’ll repost when PS version 2 is up and running.

I sure will. I didn''t expect much from it because I got it for such a bargain. But it sure is purty!!!

I love that last photo. It seems to have a lavender sheen in there. I''ve seen other sleepy spinels with that. Just because it was a bargain, don''t discount it. It''s a really pretty gem.

Have you taken a look at Tan's stores lately? I'm sure glad I purchased my stone when I did because none of the stones he's got listed are even close as nice and the prices of the nice one are outrageous!!

Shhhhhh........ one last secret. I have two smaller ovals coming from AJS to use for earrings. They were listed in their $99 sale.

Tan''s nice stones have been going for quite a bit lately. There was a pretty pink/orange spinel that I had my heart set on but it went for +$400.
15.gif
I couldn''t pay that for it since I have my JKT project going on. I was bummed the whole day.

Most respectfully;

Yes, it''s Tanzanian. Tan gets almost all his spinels from Tanzania. Come to think of it, most of his gems come from there. It''s a country rich in gemmy material.

Maybe that''s why they call him Tan!
So how do you think the ban on exporting uncut stones from Tanzania will affect him?

his partner travels there to buy rough

Ha ha ha, good one!!

Well, I think he'll just sell more lousy native cuts, which stinks because I love the cutting on some of his gems. Not all, but some have really well done cutting, compariable to precision faceting. Actually, I think some of his gems are precision faceted. You can always have them recut at extra cost, but it still stinks and I'm bummed about this ban since I know how lousy most Asian stones are cut.
