I had this little star sapphire kicking around on my bench.
It is the last of many stars that I bought recently.
I hadn't used it yet because the star is wonky.
So today I decided to make it into a sterling ring. Here are a few photos I took as I was making it.

And while I was at it, I made myself a bangle bracelet from 8 gauge sterling wire.

Wow! Color me impressed! Love them both. Great job!
I adore star sapphires and need one as my brother lost my beloved father’s ring... :(

For some reason, you had me at "wonky!" He looks so happy in his new little home.

The star has broken legs:cry2:, and the cut is kinda lumpy.
So I just ignored all that and went ahead with my idea.
It will be a good every day ring!

Ah, that's sad.
Maybe you can have one made.
A local jeweler can probably replicate one for you.

Yes, I've been doing silversmithing since about 2004.
Nothing is more fun and satisfying than making your own jewelry!

I wish I knew how. I had an oops in communication with Africa gems (no doubt my fault since I have been on opioids for my knees for 2 months) and they sent me aqua stud stones and the settings but not set, lol. I was like whaaaaaat?

So I’m going to try and get them set locally tomorrow and if not (we only have one bench here), I’ll mail back to Marc to set.

I’ve been staring at them wondering how hard could it be. Lol. I won’t try with this though...

I love your star sapphire. I have one too that is unset.

With faceted stones, a burr tool is used to grind a notch into the prong, so that the stone can be seated securely. (The prong is not just folded over the girdle of the stone)
You gotta have the right tool to do this. So your local bench can do it easily.
Show us when you get them completed!
I always love to see sapphires!

Wonky has character, even better that you made the ring yourself!

@stracci2000 is the band on your ring finger silver, or WG? I really like it!

It is sterling. I can't take credit for that one, I didn't make it. I think it's from a yard sale.
It's a good stacker!

Thanks, everyone!
I used to make jewelry every weekend, and I have posted lots of my creations in the Colored Stones forum in the past.
But I haven't been in the mood much lately.....world events, etc...........
Sometimes I sit and look at the loose stones and I just can't get motivated. But this past weekend I suddenly got inspired, I can't really say why.....
I need to get back to it.

Thanks!
It's a pretty basic design, and I've been wearing it every day now.
