I wanted to share the making of process of my 2022 project.
My dear friend @arkieb1 acquired 2 sister Jedi spinel baguettes. I fell in love with the smaller of the two and after years (it had to be years) of asking she finally let me snatch her up.

While I am not one for petite rings, I struggled with how to respect the spinel while still designing a ring that I would fit within my collection.
At this same time I was hoarding diamonds and contemplating resetting my OEC into a three stone. When the time came I couldn’t bare to dismantle Grace, so I had a few loose OECs rattling around my jewelry box. I also had a ring I was willing to scrap towards the cause as well.
i knew I wanted something unique, unusual, bordering on weird - and how do you incorporate a tiny baguette and 5.5 mm diamonds? I found myself drawn to 40s style ruby and rose gold rings. Not the gold (god I hate ruby and rose gold!) but rather the completely unexpected combinations you see in these types of rings.
I went to work with a number I’d different designs and one stood out. This is all before arkie even completely agreed to sell me the stone
I had one inspired idea- but for it to work I needed a one very specific addition - a match pair of French cuts.
They had to be the right color. Right size. Where would I even find them?! Of course arkie in all her magic had just the ticket.

So I waited patiently for my babies to make the trip across the pond before I reached out to DK. My sketches and ideas were pretty out there but they as always managed to capture what I was after. I am notorious for requiring a lot of CAD modifications- but I thought I would share the first cad rendering and the approved cad rendering as I think it’s helpful for others going through the custom process to see how these things evolve. I won’t make you look at all 5 versions though- I’m not that cruel.
Here is the first rendering.

And this is the final approved cad

I will of course show you the final product but as cads can be hard for some to visualize I also photoshopped it

I don’t expect it complete before the 4th of July but I’m sure one of you will come post it here if I don’t share it quick enough
Hopefully you enjoy these process posts- I know it’s not a lot of eye candy yet but I like to keep those posts short and sweet and chuck full of content.
ETA: you know it’s funny this will be my 3rd east west set stone and they all just happen to be spinel.
