I'm pleased to announce that I have the full GIA report and a couple of pix to post about this gem.

Measurements: 14.38 x 8.89 x 5.44mm
Carat weight: 4.18 carat
Color grade: I
Clarity grade: VS2
Polish - good
Symmetry - good
Flourescence - none

Comments:

Internal graining is not shown
Surface graining is not shown

Very thin to very thick (faceted)
Culet - medium
56% by 61.1%

Other jewelers commented that the bow tie effect was minimal. One gemologist said about the color that he thought it was a
"High I." Interesting, as I had never heard that term before.

I can tell you that it's a very nice stone that sparkles like crazy.

I'd love to hear everyone's comments.

When you said pretty little pear I was thinking half carat range...certainly not 4 carat range!!!

Would love to see more pics and know how you plan on setting it???

I'm busily trying to get out of the house so that I can do one of my faves - play pinball. Sorry for the crappy picture. I took it with my cell phone. Here's a description of the setting:

4 bar set baguettes cut (tapered) diamonds, measuring from 6.50 x 1.50 x 1.25mm (depth estimated) to 7.00 x 2.50 x 2.13 mm (depth estimated). Approximate weight of 4 stones = 0.84 ct.

Clarity: VS-1
Color: H
Cut: Good

One stamped platinum lady's cast engagement ring & wedding band with a polished finish. Condition is good. Identified with markings on "10% IRID PLAT."

The pear started out at 4.22 carats, but we recently had it re-cut. The cutter was incredible (we lost very little in the cutting process).

I don't think this setting will work because of the color difference between the 4 tapers and the pear. Don't you think that the tapers will make the pear look yellowish? Also, I'm not fond of platinum with an I (albiet a "high" I) colored stone. Lastly, we'll be selling this piece soon and I suspect that most people will find the stone too large to be in a ring. I do. Besides, the tapers are incredible and I've been told that it's difficult to match tapers re color and size. If we wind up selling the pear as a loose stone, then I guess we'll be looking for something to put in the ring or just looking for a buyer for the setting.

I've read some stuff about how a prospective buyer should not evaluate a fancy cut strictly by the numbers and that it's critical to see the stone firsthand. I haven't figured out how to evaluate the numbers on the pear, but I'm curious as to what they mean. And ain't it interesting that GIA doesn't give a cut grade on fancy stones?

One of these days, that pear-girl will make someone a stunning necklace or, alternatively, a ring for a female member of the Herman Munster family.

Yeah definitely not a little pear. It looks very sparkly, and I think the setting you are looking at will let people really admire your "little" stone.

Wow, that is a beautiful pear! I thought you really meant a small diamond, but that baby is big! I would love to own a pear that size!
