This Op-ed piece took me by surprise: it is is a plea to Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski just to leave the GOP as many other US Senators have done. It never occurred to me, but of course they should! All women should. Since the Republican Party has become The Trump Party it is now The Anti-Woman Party. It stands for elevating rich white men and denigrating all women. It encourages men to force themselves sexually on women (pussy grabbing with impunity) and to protect wife abusers by lying for them. (You lost you honor, General Kelly. Presumably you once had some on the battlefield. Was it worth losing to lie over a wife-beater?)

Maybe someday The Republican Party will be purged. But right now it is evil. We might as well hope that conservatives remain independent or form a third party if they cannot bear to become Democrats. But they should leave the Republican Party.

"By leaving the G.O.P. — either to join the other party or, more plausibly, to become independents and caucus with the Democrats — Ms. Collins and Ms. Murkowski wouldn’t simply be registering their opposition to a single Supreme Court justice. They’d be taking a powerful stand against their party’s escalating betrayals of the country. The Trump-era Republicans have made screamingly clear what should have been obvious for a long time: The G.O.P. is no longer a comfortable home for anyone who cares about the rights of women — or of minorities, immigrants, L.G.B.T. people, and the poor — or about the Constitution. Ms. Collins and Ms. Murkowski could drop the pretense that dissenting within the party has made one bit of 'moderating' difference."

It isnt just those 2
EVERY republican should leave until the time the GOP gets its head out of trumps bum and they need to refuse to support anything less than the principals they claim to want.
And what in the world were the senators doing behind closed doors in russia on july 4th?
Pleading for putin to not release the emails that were stolen or were they there to ask him to interfere again???
Either way they are not protecting this country and they should all resign .
I will never understand how they said nothing while trump systematically tears at the constitution and belittles our friends and is a pawn to out enemies.
Every last one of them needs to resign. Not one of them has demanded trump resign or supported impeachment hearings and every last one of them SHOULD.

tkyasx, my friend here in Hangout!-

It is as big a deal to me, albeit in a different way, as Trump separating children from parents that he has, so far, overlooked Russia's "annexation" of Crimea. If he makes his approval of that "annexation" official by fiat-i.e. by his word alone, without the blessing of the US Congress- that will be another huge moment in my losing trust in the the Republicans for me. And I think that that may happen in his "summit" with Putin.

Trump should not be allowed to sanction Russia's grabbing land from another soverign nation. NATO was formed to keep this from happening. Is there no Republican who cares to enforce the the old NATO treaties?

Where are the Republicans who wanted to defend the United States from Russia when it was communist? Are our European allies, who are now very much at risk, to be let down now just because Donald Trump-one man-is above all law?

I agree, everyone should leave the party that has turned into this Trump supporting swamp. But particularly anyone who identifies as "moderate" or who cares about lgbt and women's rights.

I really do wonder what a moderate is by today's standards. We've veered so far right in this country over the past 30 years that Reagan could run as a Democrat if he campaigned today.

If Reagan had posted any of this here, he'd be derided by today's Republicans as a flaming liberal, easily fooled.

Reagan on immigration: "They didn’t ask what this country could do for them, but what they could do to make this refuge the greatest home of freedom in history. They brought with them courage and the values of family, work and freedom. Let us pledge to each other that we can make America Great Again." (source)

Reagan on gun control: While we recognize that assault weapon legislation will not stop all assault weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals. We urge you to listen to the American public and to the law enforcement community and support a ban on the further manufacture of these weapons. (source)

Did I mention that The Trump administration hates women? Guess who they brought on board today?

Excerpted from today's "The New York Times"

"Bill Shine, the former Fox News executive who was pushed out over his handling of sexual harassment scandals at the network, was named the White House deputy chief of staff for communications on Thursday.

The move formalizes a job that Mr. Shine has been in since earlier this week, according to White House officials. With no vacant office to work in yet, Mr. Shine has been occupying a desk outside the principal deputy press secretary’s office, the officials said.

Mr. Shine had been in talks with President Trump about a job since the spring, even playing golf with the president and Sean Hannity, the Fox News host and one of Mr. Shine’s close friends. But Mr. Shine had been uncertain that he wanted to make himself a target for fresh scrutiny, people who had talked with him at the time said.

Since then, the communications job has evolved into a position that reports directly to the president, overseeing both the press and communications teams. Mr. Trump has made the communications team a target of his ire throughout his time in office, and Mr. Shine is expected to help revamp it."

This could either be the start of a “beautiful” friendship, or he’ll pull a Scaramucci.

The Republican Party is now the Trump Party. None of the republicans will stand up to Trump on anything. Does anyone really expect Collins and Murkowski to vote against Trump at this point or leave the party? Keeping Trumps base and making Trump happy is where the republicans priorities are. They certainly aren’t concerned about our country or how we are perceived by anyone other than dictators.

The Trump administration is so cocky they didn’t think the country would be outraged by separating children from their parents at the border. They can’t even give an exact count of how many children have been separated from their parents. There still is no policy to get these families back together after all these weeks. They violated the due process clause of the constitution and they are getting away with it.

Just the thought of Trump meeting Putin alone should be scaring the heck out of everyone.

If they do it they will not win any reelection.

Please explain why “your” party has a right to tell me or any other woman, what we are allowed to do with our own body? Republican’s don’t even pretend to care about actual children who are living and breathing, They just put thousands of children in cages and separated them from their parents (possibly permanently), without any plans in place to reunite them. They feel it’s their right to psychologically damage these children and their parents with no remorse or guilt while doing so. This administration are despicable human beings and yet I’m supposed to believe they care about a fetus?

Your party gave up the right to declare morals or values when they elected this monster as president. They have no problem not giving a second thought to children once they are born. Spare me the fake speech about how much they care about a fetus. It’s all about controlling women.

What we are all witnessing now is the New Republican Party and your party was more than happy to jump right on the bandwagon with these horrible human beings. The decent republicans are the ones who now refuse to support them and as you can see for yourself, there aren’t all that many of them who made the decision to leave or speak out against them. Decent human beings are horrified by this president’s actions.

@tkyasx78 reaction to this administration should be the norm for someone who has considered themselves a Republican. I know if Trump was a democrat president I would be just as outraged as I am now.

I don't give a damn what you do with your body Callie or any other women. Remember I am probably libertarian more than Republican. What does this diatribe at me have to do with my comment? And I am a decent human being for your information. The Dems don't hold that virtue alone. I don't decide my opinions based on what you want and I don't expect that of you.

Amen to that.

For some reason there are a lot of Democrats who believe that if you aren't a Democrat you have to be a Republican.

Now, if we could just get the Democratic Party to run some good candidates. And the Republican Party too. The people capable of running this country don't seem to be interested in the job. I can't say that I blame them.

Oh well, I was born during the Truman administration and I'm still patiently waiting. :snore:

Red, I feel as though you come running to Trump’s defense if only by posting a sentence. As you know, I am truly upset by what he is doing to this country. Maybe I’m incorrect, but it sure seems like you say little against him. As I said above if Trump were a Democrat I would be equally as outraged by his actions. The last thing I would do is support him or the party who refuses to stand up to him. I apologize if you felt I was attacking you personally.

I also realize the Dems are not perfect. I may have disagreed with past republican president’s policy but I never thought they were evil. I think Trump is evil.

I realize you and others are upset but don't take your anger out on me. I will not be your opportunity to yell at a Republican on the internet to make you feel better. There is no requirement that I say anything against him to assuage your, or anyone else's, anger. As far as I am concerned he is doing what he said he would do and that should not be a surprise to anyone nor should his demeanor as he has been this way his whole life. You and I don't see eye to eye on politics and we don't need to. Thank you for the apology but when you rant at me I will react. You should know by now that I don't rant about anything political or things politicians do like some here on PS. I certainly don't rant at PSers about their views.

Today's Republican party is not conservative enough for me when it comes to spending or the size and role of government, including Trump with that ridiculous spending bill.

For some reason, there are a lot of Republicans who believe that if you aren’t a Republican you have to be a Democrat. Both sides. :mrgreen2:

Seriously though, I am not a Democrat. I registered as an independent and would most accurately be described as a left-leaning moderate. The problem is that over the last decade or two, this country has pulled so far right that the far left and the centrists have all been lumped under the liberal label. I made a previous post about how Reagan would have to run as a Democrat by today’s standards if he were alive.

This also explains why it’s so hard for the Dems to agree on a platform. What pleases the centrists pisses off the progressives, and what pleases the progressives makes the centrists nervous.

So nope, we don’t all fall under one group or another, but we end up choosing what we consider the lesser of two evils.

"we end up choosing what we consider the lesser of two evils."

We all do. The two major parties really aren't all that different - they'll say anything to get elected. And then they spend most of their time raising money for the next election. But in the end, our system of checks and balances wins out.

Absolutely. Rs are just as big spenders as Dems but the money goes different places. It'll all come around again as we are all on a merry-go-round or hanging on the end of that pendulum. The Dems will get a chance to "fix" things in the future.

Yup!, The Ds got everything they asked for. :wall:

According to Joe Scarborough, the Republican party of Trump is not conservative at all. He went on a fairly low keyed, but eloquent rant recently (maybe yesterday?) about all the positions he has taken for about about 20 years, adding that they are all on tape, and let the audience decide which opinions were the conservative ones, the ones he had and still holds or the one Donald Trump now holds ans foisted onto the Republican Party.

Maybe somewhere what he said is on videotape, but it may not be available on YouTube. I know in his rant he mentioned James Madison. That would help me to identify it if I found it .:))

This video clip does not include the part where Joe Scarborough talks about being a conservative, but it is very well worth watching. It gives a true conservative's view of Donald Trump, but not a conservative who was willing to toe the Trump line. (Joe Scarborough was once a friend of Donald Trump before he became president; he has now left The Republican Party.)
