I am not a bird watcher, per se, but I LOVE birds! All birds! I'm always so happy to see birds in flight, whether in my yard, while I'm driving (I always notice them), hiking, on vacation, wherever I am. In flight, they look so free and happy!

We took some photos of the birds in our front yard last weekend that I'm going to post. I'm hoping you will all post your bird photos too! Do you have pictures of the birds in your yard at this time of year? Pet birds? Bird photos from vacation? Post them here!!

I'll start. These are all birds that are apparently happy living in Connecticut in the Winter!! This is our Downey Woodpecker!!! Isn't he gorgeous!

Blue Jays are very common 'round here, but man, are they GORGEOUS!

I believe these are black-capped chickadees. Too cute! ::)

I love this little guy. Anyone know what type of bird he is?

And, then there's this guy, who seems to have a lot of personality!! Any idea what type he is?

Sorry for the poor picture quality on some. We took these from the other side of a window.

Lovely feathered friends, LV!

My mom is a bird watcher, so I grew up with feeders and nesting boxes all around... and always with a pair of binoculars nearby!

After I moved out West I struggled with identifying birdies. Some are quite different from what I saw in Ohio! My mom sent me a link for a great site: http://www.whatbird.com It's easy to follow and fairly accurate. It helped me identify my Northern Flicker! (The photo below is not mine, FYI)

ETA: Tufted titmouse is my guess... just double checked! That looks about right :)) They're cute little guys!

And I *think* this guys is a white throated sparrow, as he has yellow lores. He looks so puffy and cute!

Here's our "wild" monster.

Love the pics.

Kenny, must have more info on that beauty. What's his/her name? And does he/she talk or make any noises? I had a red-bellied parrot that was a real daredevil. I miss him all the time.

Thanks.
Puppy, our Senegal Parrot, is a really cuddly sweetheart.
She'll lower her head and use a toe to point to where she wants me to scratch.

I don't teach her to talk but just teach her cute clicking and gurgling sounds.
Unfortunately she has some native jungle vocalizations too. :knockout:

She was a locally hand fed baby we got at 8 weeks.
Now two years old, she's just starting to get along with the dogs.

Awww.....such a cute pic. Thanks Kenny.

PilsnPinkysMom - Thank you so much for helping me i.d. the little guys!! They all seem to have so much character. I love that little sparrow. I'll have to keep an eye out to see if he has any other friends about. Thanks for the link to the "What Bird" site. I've never seen or even heard of a Northern Flicker -- very cool looking bird! You have one that visits your yard?

It's also really nice to hear that your mom taught you about birds! I have a little girl on the way (due in less than a month now!), and I imagine what it'll be like to teach her about the world around us and how amazing and unique and special every little being is. :))

Kenny - What a gorgeous creature Puppy is! Your dogs are very tolerant, too! ::)

Kenny, love your bird and dogs!!!!

We just went to an awesome bird store today! They literally have hundreds of birds in that store, its insane but so cool to look at. Lots of African Grey's there today. SO's parents have an African Grey---great talker, but will only allow one out of the 5 people that live in the house touch him.

SO used to have these two and says that they were incredibly affectionate (had to give them up due to work hours):

Autumnovember, I have never known anybody to have owned a black palm cockatoo. I love cockatoos, but they are too needy for my taste. I almost got a Goffin's once, but wound up getting a African grey. I miss my birds.

At a bird expo, I saw a hawkhead. He was really beautiful. Someday I would like to get a black headed caique. I saw one at a store once and just played with him. He was such a crazy little fellow. I love how they hop as opposed to walk.

He had it for quite some time but sadly had to give them up when work was too demanding. Just as you said, he said they needed tons of attention and with his work schedule, it just wasn't possible to give them that but he did say they were absolutely awesome. He has told me some really cute stories about them :) When we get our house, we want to get a Goffin and a Black Palm. I really like the Goffin's...maybe not the most beautiful bird, but they're personalities are so nice :)

The Easter bunny brought Puppy an egg full of peanuts.
Hehehe.

This guy is a tufted Titmouse. We have lots of them here.

All of your birds are gorgeous! I'm unfortunately allergic or I would have a cockatoo named Gabriel right now. He's a friend's and he is in LOVE with me. He coos when he hears me on the phone, walks all over me, and talks to me a lot. I can only be around him for short periods of time, as I'm allergic to the down dust. :(( He's my fraynd. I love to bird watch though, I love identifying them and I hope to someday have a camera that I can photo them with.

These are my two diamond doves, they are lovely little pets, very quiet but also make the cute dove cooing noises. I really love birds of all kinds.

DF - Happy to hear you like identifying them! :wavey: I have a few more to post from my trip to FL last year, but I did not have a good zoom lens (I still need a better one) at the time. I'm sure you'll be familiar with them though.

Beacon - What beautiful doves! It's nice that you have two, so they can be friends!

Cehra - Thanks for the link. I'd love to see any bird photos you may have taken in China! hint, hint

I love parrots and I'm so excited to see everybody's pictures! I've always wanted a parrot, but I'm kind of afraid of them and worried about caring for an animal that can live so long. So I just visit them at the pet store and look at pictures online ::)

My parents used to have a bird feeder when I was a kid and my dad taught me some of the local birds. My favorites were always blue jays, even though they're mean suckers. I love going out west and seeing all of the crazy birds I don't recognize - I love the huge jays with the black heads.

Here are some baby owls we cared for while I volunteered at a wildlife rescue. I saw so many interesting birds as that was the area I specialized in.

The park behind my house is frequently occupied by these Canada geese!

There is something so incredibly amazing about owls. They're so pretty!

Here's mine! This is when he was allowed to roam the top of his cage. I'd frequently find him in this position. Unfortunately, he doesn't like Fi or our cat, so he's not allowed to roam anymore :((
