I purchased a .45 IF D Asher a year or so ago as a life event mile marker. I was never quite happy with the setting and I generally only wear rings on my ring fingers and occasionally a thumb ring, so it wasn’t getting much time out of the jewelry box. My larger stone rings are so lovely, and I wear them almost every day - so no love for this lovely.
On top of needing more fingers, the open ring is cool to look at, but wearing it - not so much. It catches on everything. It’s a bit like having a hook on you finger - knitwear, straps, hair, all catch in the gap or the prongs of the Alexandrite.
A few weeks ago I purchased the coolest, funky little lilac sapphire (1.56) from the MasterCut spring sale. I though the two would compliment each other well in a bypass style ring. But wanting to have a nice balance of ring size, total metal ‘bulk’ and given that both stones are dainty, I decided on a pinky ring with bezels. I have never had a pinky ring but figured ‘what the hell!’
Here is the CAD, the 1.56 sapphire, and the diamond in its current open ring setting. The alexandrite in the open ring is getting a new home in a ruby eternity band I have that I don’t wear much anymore. We will drop a simple Stuller bezel into the band, setting the oval EW style. The rubies are small but a really deep classic pigeon blood color in YG. Think the ruby will compliment the alexandrite nicely.
The new pinky ring will be a YG stone finish, not high polish, it will be a 3.75 size for a sense of proportion.
More photos to come when the wax is ready!
