Heh heh. Same boat here. 1.77ct. Just over, just under, or almost? I''d probably be precise although that wouldn''t mean much to most people. I usually quote in "points". It''s completely up to you though. Switch it up a bit if you want.
Same here, just under a carat. My stone is 1.63, and the only time I have been asked, it was by a relative, and they said, wow, is that 2 carats? And I said, no, not that big. Then they said, a carat and a half? And I said, yes, around that. If someone asked directly, I''d either say around a carat and a half or 1.6, depending on who it was.
I would say just under a carat. In my head, I''d be thinking "85 points," but wouldn''t say that however as it''d confuse some people. In a jewelry store, I once asked to see if they had any pear-shaped stones around 40 points and the sales gal didn''t understand what I was talking about. lol
I hate it when people try to interpret data for me. So, I would say it’s .85 carat or 85 points and if it’s your diamond you can say it’s just under a carat. Eighty-five points is just under a carat but it’s closer to just over ¾ carat. Sales people want you have the “1 carat” ringing in your mind when you consider the diamond.
Depends on who I was talking to... here I would say .85... to the average person who typically thinks diamonds just come in certain fractions, I would say, "It''s a little over 3/4ct" since it is closer to .75 than 1ct. Maybe the average person would better understand "bigger than" rather than "over" even though ct is weight and not dimensions. If I wanted to give them more info I might say, "It''s .85ct which is a little over 3/4ct" or maybe "It''s .85ct which is between 3/4 and 1ct."
Hey there! Thought I''d "weigh in" on all this carat-talk...so to speak!
Years ago, when first engaged, I had a .72 oval (though not for long -- lost it and replaced it with a 1 carat pear) -- but when asked about my oval I would say "it''s three-quarters of a carat" - (which was BARELY fudging it, in my opinion!)
Now I have a 1.00 carat pear, which because of the elongated shape people sometimes ask if it''s a carat and a half...but since it''s a nice round number, I just tell the truth and tell them it''s a carat.
In your situation, I think I''d definitely say "Just under a carat". To almost everyone, 85 points looks like a carat and I have heard of some full carat stones that are slightly on the deeper cut end and face up more like 85 pointers. And the difference is so small..I think "just under a carat" is perfectly accurate - and sounds good too!
