Next week marks our 6 month anniversary since Oreo wandered into our home and hearts. She has brought so much awesomeness into our lives, we adore her. So far:

We got her healthy and then dealt with a scary injury. She is 100% now.

We met her original owner :o

She still steals bread (and cheese).

She still owns our white chair. Really, no one ever sits in it.

Here are some pictures from today for Roe-Roe's PS friends.

Original story can be found here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/a-cat-sat-on-my-steps-meowing-to-come-in-now-what-pics.200569/

sweet picture!
expect a virtual 1 year anniversary party!

Oreo looks so very sweet! I remember when you started your first thread and I'm so glad that it all worked out for you:)

How did you meet the original owners??? (Going to see if it's in the other thread).

I was just thinking of Oreo.

Can we get a few more pics? Okay, let's be honest... a TON more pics??

I do hope a fantastic little girl wanders into our lives.

Cute!

I'll get more pictures in the morning, promise! I know you're still hurting over your recent loss, I also know that cats have a knack for finding their people. Sending lots of kitty dust your way.

Oreo (the cat who thinks she is a dog) tends to occasionally run out the door after SO and I. She never goes anywhere, just trots along beside us until we can coax her back in. It can be a little :wall: when we're trying to rush out the door for work, but she always follows one of us back in. So we live in a townhouse and over at the neighboring pool house there is a vending machine that sells this Southern brand of soda called Cheerwine we love that we can never find in stores, so sometimes we scratch a couple bucks together and go buy some. Oreo runs out after SO one night a couple months ago and follows him over there (SO is carrying her at this point) when all of a sudden a man approaches and asks about her. SO tells him she's our cat and the man says she's his cat.

We learned that the man has an outdoor cat (another skinny cat we always see around) and one of her litters produced our Oreo. She was kept as an outside cat with one of her littermates. We asked if he ever made an effort to locate her through the places we'd submitted her info to and he said he figured she'd just wandered away. Obviously neither SO or I could have handled losing her after all this time and luckily when we asked what the man wanted to do he said "She looks like she belongs to you now." The meeting was sheer chance.

I was shaking like a leaf because I really wouldn't have given her up. We have all her vet info and paperwork and she is a member of the family. As much as I disagreed with how she had been kept before I am so thankful that her old owner could recognize that she is in a good place. She was being carried around like a queen for heaven's sake. Now we have closure on her history, which is nice as well.

Oh my goodness. I would have been shaking like a leaf too.

I'm so glad that she found you. OBVIOUSLY she knew that they were not good enough for her and she went searching for a better family that would appreciate her. They didn't even look for her, for goodness sakes.

One time my Duncan got outside and didn't come right back in. OMG. My entire body was shaking and I was bargaining with him to come back in, I was crying and pleading and trying so hard to not freak him out so he wouldn't bolt and run. I'll never forget that feeling. It was HORRIBLE.

I'm SO happy he elected to leave her with you. I know you would have fought for her. They didn't do anything to look for her at all, she was wearing no collar. For me, that means they abandoned her. I don't know if the law would have agreed with me. But I am glad it didn't come that and that she is now yours free and clear.

Whew.

I love your Oreo. She does remind me of my Hally a bit.

And yes, more pictures would be a lovely distraction.

I was going to ask the same thing about her owner, but you have explained it. I would have been pooping cats literally - so glad you got to keep her. I bet she would have run home back to you anyway. Cats know when they are on a good deal and she is much loved and cherished now. :D

Beautiful cat.

Such wonderful news Elliot! Thank you for sharing the additional info and thank goodness Oreo is safe and happy with you guys. :appl: :appl: :appl:

It's amazing how much love and happiness animals can bring to a home isn't it? Really happy for Oreo and for your whole family!!!

And yes, more pics please. :halo:

ETA: I wish that man the original "owner" of Oreo would spay and neuter his cats. He is doing them all a disservice and I really dislike irresponsible pet "owners"...those poor skinny cats he has now.

I love her markings! so unusual to have small spots on her face. She's a adorable.

Yes, Missy, that was my 2nd thought, after how cute & cuddly Oreo looks.

Happy 1st anniversary, Oreo, Elliot, & SO!!!! :wavey: :wavey: You are a super family!

Oreo is beautiful and is blessed to have found your family.

Phone camera is charging up for pictures! Speaking of collars, does anyone has a recommendation? We've gone through THREE since May. Cute studded ones, plain thin ones, all breakaways, and she somehow gets them off. I'd really like a collar on her at all times. She's microchipped, but cats with collars say "I belong to someone!" and we want her to wear one.

As for the owner he was nice and I love him for not demanding her return. We had flyers up all over the place so to run into him on a random run for Cheerwine was crazy. I know I sound like a broken record but she is the most awesome cat. I have no doubt she was thinking "Um... I'm amazing, y'all are missing out, peace."

Interesting read with regard to meeting Oreo's original owner.

Glad to see he realised Oreo is settled and better off in her new home.

Lovely pics of the cat and thanks for the update.

DK :))

As requested

I'm glad your encounter with Oreo's original owner ended well! :appl: And if he had challenged your ownership...? You have excellent PS documentation of the steps you took to try to find him in the first place!

Awe! I want!

One of my cats used to eat bread. We couldn't leave it on the counter anymore because she would chew through/claw open the plastic around it and gorge on it. Crumbs everywhere!

She's a cutie! Such unique coloring. How could you not love that face!

I love love love the new pictures!!

As for collars. She's totally indoors, so if you get her microchipped, that's fine. IMO.

We gave up on collars. One of my cats is a genius at getting them off himself and the OTHER cats. So he would take his own off and then take off everyone elses. They'd all line up to have him take them off too. It was funny.

If you do the quick release collars. They come off at the drop of a hat. If you don't, you risk them getting injured. So to me, its not worth it as long as the cat is completely indoors.

Oreo is a beautiful sweetheart and very lucky to have found you.

She's gorgeous, Elliott. I've been following her story (and yours)here for quite some time and it's nice to see things progressing well. I used to keep a little cheap-0 collar with a bell on it on my kitty when I lived by myself. She liked to roam my apartment in the middle of the night and I had several near-misses of stepping on her during bathroom visits during the night. She didn't really care for the collar, but it got us through kitten stage and the first year until we figured out each other's patterns.

Gypsy that's hilarious that one cat would houdini out of its collar and then take off everyone else's. They are geniuses!

Oh yay! More Oreo pics!

And that's so crazy that you met her original "owner". And I use that word loosely. I'm glad he was able to understand that she has a home now and didn't try to take her from you. I would have put the smack down on someone if they tried to take her away! Funny thing is, a similar situation happened recently with my DH's singer. His wife was out walking their dogs and found 2 little chihuahua puppies abandoned. She took them home and have been caring for them for a few weeks now. They have 2 large dogs (one who just had a hip replacement and is scheduled for another hip replacement) and 2 cats, so they've got quite the zoo now. LOL! Anyway, she was out walking the puppies when some guy pulled up and claimed they were his dogs. They're not even a year old and he claimed that he paid $900 for them and had tried breeding them but they were "useless". They're not even sexually mature, for crying out loud! :angryfire: Friend's wife asked what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to take one of them and she could keep the other. Friend's wife say "No way, you can't separate them", so he thought about it then said "You keep them", luckily for her and the pups. I got to puppy-sit them the other day and they are the sweetest little things!

As for the collar, I wouldn't bother, as Gypsy said, as long as she's chipped and kept indoors. Cats just don't like collars, in my experience, and will go to extreme lengths to remove them, often at their own risk.

Thanks again for the update!

Oh Elliott, She is such a little beauty!

Thanks for the Oreo update, Elliot. She is a gorgeous cat. I'm glad her original "owner" signed on on Oreo adopting you, lol. She decided your place was a where she wanted to be.

That brown tabby that turned up at my house might have been a local, after all. One day last week, I thought I heard a bird imitating a cat. When I walked in that direction, a brown tabby kitten somewhere between 7 and 11 weeks old popped out from under the truck in my driveway. It must have been feral, because it ran for the truck when I got too close, then completely disappeared to places unknown. But it was the same color as the 3.5 year old brown tabby I have. Almost the spitting image of him as a kitten, I imagine. Haven't seen or heard that kitten since. Kind of eerie, like being visited by a ghost. lol

^ Hilarious, Gypsy. Cats are smart. Anyone who says cats are stupid just isn't very observant.
