I would love to hear your expert opinions on this EC. To my untrained eye, this stone looks very crisp and bright…?

Thanks to Pricescope, I learned to like warm stones and have viewed H-J range EC in person. I don’t think I am that color sensitive but I only have viewed them in less than an hour each time in the jewelry shops. I do hate the light setting inside those shops and always ask to look at them with as much natural light as possible.

So far, I don’t have a very specific preference on L/W ratio but I do like slightly chunkier facet.

The color of this EC looks more like a “fancy light yellow” to me. The inclusions do not seem to be very visible on the video. I’ve read various opinions on IGI grading here…is it even worth to request ASET for it?

Appreciate your assistance in advance.

This is nothing close to fancy light yellow. Don’t set your expectations to that or you will be disappointed.
At the cost you are spending I would not buy an Igi stone. As the difference in color from what igi grades it and Gia grades it can be 10s of thousands.

.
Three pt.-s:
# macro video exagerates colour - not just a little
# IGI ...
# I cannot tell XYZ-s, FLY & FY in pictures ... Of course, I am no grader, so you could fool me in person too.

These being said, 'light - before - fancy' yellow diamonds are beautiful indeed .-)

You must have noticed this one: 7.11 FLY. I hadn't noticed the 6.71 ! It would be great fun seeing those two side by side.

It’s a pretty EC but I wouldn’t call it light yellow. The problem always is how they look in a macro video and fancy lighting compared to how it looks and performs mounted in a ring and on your hand in ordinary conditions. It’s a lot of money to spend and not be 110% estastic.

Thanks Niel. You are correct; it could be lower grade or even “brownish?” in color.

Without looking it in person, I thought that it looks “nice” when comparing to others on JA site.

I'm not comfortable with stones that are not with a GIA or AGS report.

Can you tell us where you are generally located so that we can recommend a PS vendor you could work with in person in addition to online vendors? I feel like you should take a look at 6 carats in person to see what your color tolerance is in real life.

.
I would suspect brownish, but ... the FY range does allow some variation before a 'Brownish' modifier is named. On the other hand, you might see a happy yellow OPQR ... [from nearby: www].

Thank you for your tips.

I knew that I would learn something from you all. I never tried to search “yellow” on JA until you pointed it out…7.11 looks nice too! 6.71 is under “colorless”.

Another question…I noticed that some diamonds show up more “crisp” while some are showing a bit “foggy” on JA. Do you think it’s due to fluorescence or just natural of the diamond, assuming that the JA macro video setting is consistent, or maybe not?

For instance, 3690600 looks crisper to me than 3703417 even though 3690600 has stronger fluor than the latter one.

I thought even 6.71 looks slightly brighter than 7.11?

Please advise.

Yes, I agree. Just wonder if it’s worth to spend time pursuing…

I have noticed not so crisp videos ... Couldn't tell if the effect is 'real', except in some extreme cases, where the clarity characteristics responsible are obvious from the GIA reports.

The 5.03 6 5.36 do not look textured that way, on my screen. I'd say that the light source was stronger for the video of the 5.36. The colour seems very exagerated in both !

I have looked at diamonds in similar carat and color ranges in person at some PS and nonPS vendors over the past years. Browsing JA site and it’s seemingly easy/free return policy are convenient at this moment. I don’t think I need 30 day to decide if I want to keep the diamond. I have a feeling that I will know right the way once I looked it at real light settings.

(wish this were the cut you are after)

Thanks for the LY marquise. I think I have my mind set for nearly colorless EC.

My priorities are

cut

eye clean

almost white

tried on a J/VS2 GIA 12.22x9.47x6.14 a few years ago for fun…it was divine!

Totally!

I read that I could request up to 3 ASET per email from JA, I wanted to be careful finalizing the 3 before requesting. Does it mean that I could request 3 more on another email…or 3 per customer only?

.
You do 3, I'll do 3 ,-) [NO!]

Three at a time, not sure of next steps.

.
Like-minded side-stones, of course !

D/IF is too much for me. For whatever reason, the most interesting EC I am seeing listed around are D/IF - not merely E or VVS, but D/IF ! It is a curse ...

[vent]

D/IF in similar sizes are out of my league!

3 at a time. Can request an unlimited amount in multiple emails;)2

Thank you for the info. Other than ASET and ask their gemologist to evaluate the stones, what else would JA do to assist with the decision?

RE. The 15 mm LONG

Not sure if a miniature of Skinner 2586B Lot 753 would work - even on a small hand ...

I'd be tempted to go wild - like that rock !

@DauphineMucha - I don't have anything to add about the stone you are looking at, since I know nothing about EC's, but I can't wait to see the finished product.:mrgreen2:

Congrats on your upcoming purchase!

That is great idea! I love turn of the century styles! Just a side note…I really want to give a good scrub for that Cartier ring…dusty! :P2

Thanks...it's still very early and I don't know what to expect...

Love looking at your collection tho!

@DauphineMucha ,

RE. 'dust'

I hear you ... Perhaps a sales tactic ? ,-) 'Mercy the Cartier Deco !' [apologies to Skinner - joking]

Would certainly pick it from the dust ...

BTW, I am reading your posts on that awesome cushion ring in hope of learning something from your experience. Thank you.
