Hello. Coming out of lurking to ask opinions
I have been drooling over all the pictures of peoples 5 stone rings posted lately and would really love one , unfortunately with a ..ahem..limited budget. While I'd like to get 5 individually certified ideal cut stones that would I think not be possible for my budget.

I would wear this on my right hand , with a ring size of 6.25. I wear a 1.07 G SI AGS ideal ( crafted by infinity) round on the left.

The options I have been looking at are
1) white flash shared prong 5 stone 1.25 carat f/g ? ACA ? Uncertfied stones at $3050
2) I D jewelry shared prong 5 stone 1.50 Carat f/g si uncertified but ? Excellent cut stones at $ 2550.
Even with more money I wouldn't go bigger than 1.50, but would get ideal ags stones.

Do you think the ACA melée is worth the $500 extra cost/ smaller size?

Hi there Missy :wavey: Welcome to PS and congratulations for 'outing' yourself lurk-wise heheh.

Five-stone ring sounds *lovely*, I was hoping to get meself a little 5-stone RHR goodness to celebrate my upcoming 40th...but my husband had other plans and rushed off to get me something over the counter. Sigh.

First constructive thing I've got to say is that patience is a virtue (and I'm not a patient person, let me tell you). You could consider gathering the stones one by one, and getting it down further down the track. You could go with upgradeable stones that way... which is almost a dissatisfaction insurance, in a way!

But if you feel you could just about explode, and waiting is impossible, I would say go for size. Have you tried any rings of these sizes irl? If you can be clear about which size you prefer, that would give you direction. Sometimes bigger is not better...but if you have concerns that smaller is boring, I would prioritise size. The 1.5 will give a lovely chunky ring.

Are you in the US? I hear they have brilliant returns policies, perhaps you could be cheeky and order both and check them out side by side... =)

SI is a good place to start, in my view, as long as eyeclean. I would prefer a higher colour over higher clarity grading, if I had to make any 'difficult choices'.

Having said that, it is nearly midnight here and so I haven't clicked on your links. ooh, I see you have not posted links, where's the eyecandy? :D If you are not selecting the individual stones, you are kind of at the mercy of the vendor, in terms of the specifics of each stone. But that is exactly where I am headed - my man has picked out my birthday pressie off the shelf. Oh well, can't complain! :D

ARe you deciding on the size of stones/tcw or the vendor? Reading a 7 stone thread, there were guidelines to decide the amount of stones for finger coverage. I'll TRY and remember... measure closed hand from pinky to middle finger, using a soft string or ribbon. Measure that on a mm ruler. Subtract .5mm for each set of prongs (on the 7stone ring, it was approx 3mm) then that leaves you with the mm coverage you are looking for in diamonds. From that, you can determine what size diamond will give you the coverage you are looking for.

Next - do you have that much real estate on your finger (height wise), if it turns out a .10 or a .18 or a .25 is the best size for you? Will it be low set or higher set? will it rub against your existing e ring (if you will wear them together)? will you need a spacer?

Just things to think about.

ID jewellers, BGD, WF are well regarded with these types of settings.

Try on a variety of styles at your local B&M store, as well. That will give you a sense of what works for your hand and what look you are going for.

Have fun! Nothing beats a fun day of ring shopping!!

If you are on a limited budget, I just wanted to let you know that Designer Jewellry Investments on ebay currently has a 5-stone ring up for auction (no reserve) and there is 4 days to go. The ring is 1.25 ctw, E-F colour and IF-VVS1 clarity, 18K WG, ring size 7. Current bid is $438.00. If I didn't already have a 5-stone ring, I'd bid on this one myself. It may be worth checking out!! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Cheers!
