I am so grateful for those of you who helped me decide to get this band on the spur of the moment last week (Enerchi, ForteKitty, natascha, Dreamer, and diamondseeker). That thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/small-oec-help-quickly.178082/ I had only 3 things left on my 'ultimate jewelry wish list,' and a 5-stone was one of them. DH gave me the go-ahead on it "as long as some PSers agree it's a good piece." It arrived on Saturday and I am very pleased with it, especially for the price I paid. :naughty: Secondhanddiamond on eBay was the seller and Nathy was incredibly quick with her replies to my questions, and provided extra photos to help me make my decision, plus free 1 day shipping. I'd definitely buy from her again! :appl:

It's an approx. 1.25 carat 5 stone OEC band, likely G VS1 stones, in platinum 6-prong heads with a 14k yellow gold cathedral shank. I am not a big yellow gold fan, but I like the contrast between the two metals in this piece. It seems very charming and romantic to me. The little 6-prong heads are so dainty. I can tell that one stone has a very tiny cutlet and a larger table (compared to the larger cutlets and smaller tables on the others), so is likely more of a transitional than OEC, but it's difficult for me to tell without a loupe. There are some small scratches on the tables, but nothing serious that I can see without my 30x loupe. Also, one of the end stones is slightly smaller than the others, maybe 3.6mm vs. 3.9mm like the other stones. I haven't decided if this bothers me enough to do anything about it.

The plan is to get this sized for now and try to convince my DH to let me wear it sooner rather than later  (he wants me to put it away until closer to our 5 year anniversary... on 8/8/2013!). Ultimately, though, I may get it re-set into the Brian Gavin Trellis II setting that I adore so much (like neatfreak's ring that she just sold): http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/wedding-and-anniversary-bands/eternity-bands/five-stone-trellis-band-ii-18k-white-gold-5400w18

I only have a few photos from my phone, but I can try for more later. I put it next to my .55 I VS2 solitaire and F/G bezel band for comparison purposes only... would never wear it this way!

Oh, WOW! That is beautiful! Those stones are sparkling white! Are you sure you don't want to keep the setting as it is? It looks like it's in great condition.

Thanks, Trekkie! I might leave it alone. I really do love it as-is. I'm hoping to get it sized this week and ask my DH if it can be a Christmas present or something instead. :naughty: The only drawback may be how high the stones are set, but the six prongs seem to give good protection for these old stones.

It's beautiful! Good job!

Put it away for a year???

Very pretty! I say wear it now then have it reset for your 5 year. That way it will feel like a new ring.

Thank you! DH does not totally 'get' this jewelry obsession. He is lovely to accomodate my bling love, but keeping this in a box for a year might be the worst torture.

That's what DH offered to do! And, if I decide not to re-set, maybe I can use those funds for something else. :Up_to_something: :naughty:

Gah, that is so beautiful!!

Just beautiful..!!! I love the vintage 5 stones.

Thank you, Laila and Mara! Mara, I saw your 5-stone listed on DB... that ring and this one could be twins!

I dropped off the ring at the jeweler on my lunch hour to be sized and appraised (not independent appraisers, but I find their valuations to be accurate for replacement costs). It was an 8 and I need it to be 5.75--yikes! I've had them re-size for me before with no issues, but I am a little concerned about such a size difference. It won't be done for 2 weeks, but at least I'll have a better reason to come back from our vacation next week than the fact that I have to work.

oh it looks PERFECT on you!!! I love it and I'm so glad you got it, Rubybeth!!! Yippee!! :appl:

I really love it in the band photo - that's gorgeous. It looks stunning on its own, too. Any shots of it with your solitaire?? That would be totally rockin' the bling factor!!

Yeah - its gorgeous - thank DH from all of us, for treating you to this ring!

That is such a lovely piece and the size is perfect on your hand!

Yes so similar to mine!! that seller you bought from usually IMO is a bit overpriced but I saw this listing come up last week and went wow that is pretty affordable for the ctw and visual quality! Happy it went to a PS'er!

Very pretty and very white stones!

And it works great with your stack.

I believe you won't have a problem with the height of the setting. My 5 stone has the same type of setting and the stones are pretty well protected from impact at all sides. It would have to be a really specific and unlucky hit to touch the stones. Also that type of setting has been popular for nearly a hundred years over here (both for 5 stones, 3 stones and solitaries) and there is usually no problems. I would worry more with the modern shared prong type settings.

It is gorgeous, looks perfect on you!

It is beautiful Rubybeth, Great find!!

Thanks, Enerchi! Your post helped me decide to even ask DH about it, so I'm so glad you chimed in when you did.

I think the second photo is the one with my radiant solitaire... the 5-stone is a monster compared to it! A larger solitaire is on my wishlist, as is a solitaire pendant, and at the rate I'm going with getting items on my wishlist, I may have them both within the next few years. Here's to paying off the student loans and getting more bling!

Mara, I probably wasn't looking at exact comps, but I had wanted a 1.25 ctw 5 stone, and after seeing neatfreak's OEC band go on sale and miss it (plus hers was priced at double what this one cost), I felt it was a good enough price to ask my DH about it. This is exactly how I got my diamond earrings last year--was looking at .6 ctw in bezels, likely from IDJ, and then saw 1ctw in BGD custom bezels on DB for the same price I was ready to pay for .6 ctw! My husband appreciates that I research these things. :naughty: :read:

natascha, I am sure you are right. This setting is going to protect the stones a lot better than a shared prong would. I love that the stones and setting go so well together in their antique look, but mostly all I see is sparklies.

Thank you, too, Rosebloom, minousbijoux, lknvrb4, and artdecogirl!

Nice find!

What a beautiful 5 stone! I just love the look of old cut stones and I really like the way the stones are set!

Enjoy your "new" ring!

Cachette :))

Thank you, Cachette!

I have two more photos to add, one is sort of a 'real life perspective' shot on my hand next to my wedding set.
