I''ve just been told my bf is planning on buying me a .5 diamond solitaire pendant for my birthday coming up in July. Platinum preferred but white gold will also do. The fall back is, I have to find it, at a decent and reasonable price. I''ve browsed the major retail stores online, and the prices are all different. We found a non-certified for $699 at ultra, but I know there diamonds are cheap. What is the better deal, certified or non-certified?
What is a reasonable price to pay for something like this?

He doesnt want to spend no more than $1,000. Any suggestions on where to find a good deal? I want to find something reasonable now, so I dont have to buy another one later, and spend more. I dont know much about diamonds and would love to hear from people that do.

Please Help

Hi MM, and welcome. You can run a search here on PriceScope to get an idea of what your budget will buy you. Staying just a hair below .50 ct. will save you a lot of money, as there's a price jump right at .50. In a well-cut diamond, you won't be able to see a difference between a .47 and a .50. This is a screenshot of a quick search I ran - for a pendant, I wouldn't hesitate to compromise on clarity in order to get a slightly larger size. This should give you an idea of what's out there. Also, a simple white gold setting should be around $100, so most of your budget can go to a stone. If you decide to purchase from one of the PriceScope vendors (I've had great experiences with several here), ask them about a discount for PriceScope members, many of them offer something like 5% off. Best of luck!
