I am undecided about which design looks better for a 5 carat pear cut Mahenge spinel measuring 8 x 12 mm.

Option 1:
Halo around the pear, halo at the base, plain shank.

Option 2:
Halo around the pear, halo at the base, melee in the shank.

In #1, the base halo is more of a little surprise.
In #2, the melee in the shank pulls the halo around the stone and the base halo together and maintains that continuous diamond look.

Which do you prefer and why? I have CADs from WF and the poll is in the Coloured Stone section but I figured if I put it here, I’ll be able to get more opinions since the CS section is rather small and tucked away in our own little world.

plain shank - so gorgeous!!

Have you considered a necklace?

I think pears look super hanging from the throat.

For a second I thought, "Hola shmoley, Chrono got a 5ct diamond??" Then I remembered that killer pear mehenge!

Did you see the pendent that a regular posted made for her mom recently with a pear diamond? It really looked great... or rock it out in a three stone with pear or trap sides?

Sigh.... I should read posts before I reply.

I voted for plain shank, but I really like that look. It will be so awesome either way!

Thank you to all. I know pears make awesome pendants but I don''t wear them. And if I do, they are always hidden under my shirt so it''ll be a waste.

I like option number two if you''re going to have a halo at the base. If there was only a single halo around the Mahenge spinel, I might have voted for a plain shank. A second halo is going to make a pretty big impact on the piece (it isn''t like a single surprise diamond in the gallery) so I think the piece will need diamonds in the shank to pull it all together.
