5 ct neon red Mahenge spinel in Whiteflash halo

This has been a very long ongoing project since the third quarter of 2009. It started with the purchase of the 4.85 ct Mahenge spinel from Eric Saul of SwalaGemTrader. The stone is very beautiful and the purchase process easy and smooth. Then along came the very generous 10K PS gift by the owners and moderators of Pricescope which led to a design collaboration with a few Coloured Stoners, that was brought to life by Whiteflash. I started this thread in the Coloured Stone section since I hang out there most of the time; so here is a link there with the same pictures. I haven’t seen you in CS so you must have been lurking.

I have no complaints whatsoever about the setting. The ring is sooooooo delicate in person. Nothing but bling everywhere; it doesn’t take much for the little ACAs to throw fireworks everywhere either. I am definitely pleased with the ring and am so glad I added melees in the shank. The very first design was with a plain shank. It turned out that those melees ARE noticeable and only add to that flowing look. I’ll gladly have WF do another custom setting for me anytime if I can tear away from spending more money on gemstones.
