A couple more pics I got this morning . . .

Kind of blurry - but COLOURS!

The halo portion turned out perfectly -- love that there aren''t any of those gaps that can happen with the round-in-a-squarish shape dealies -- and how low down its sunken into the halo ... and the patterns of that stone: GASP!

Re: the smaller bezeled stone -- maybe you should have them polish off the "miligrain" and leave it smooth -- the edges of the halo are smooth & your other bezel pendant is smooth. I doubt there gonna be able to up their miligrain game overnight yanno?

LOVE the combo with the other pendant!!! CONGRATS!!!

Thanks, Deco! After living with it for a day, and realizing that I like wearing it with my solitaire more than I thought I would, your advice is spot on. I think I''d like to try and have him thin out the bezel a bit, as well, but knowing that OMC isn''t completely round (kind of more cushion-ey than round), I think it''s destined to be a bit thicker than I had envisioned.

Plus, I know I rushed him on that miligrain, and I''d rather go with something I know he can do well, which is fluid, smooth, metal bezels.

LOVE this pendant, Lauren - you come up with the classiest pieces! When I saw your first pics of the unfinished halo, I thought it was an Adwar piece, but your jeweler did a nice job. How did the back turn out - any shots?

hi lauren :)

firstly, let me say that i really like it. i think the design is terrific and i love its proportions (always a big deal for me re jewelry).

i''ve been sitting here for the last 10 minutes looking at the smaller, milgrained stone, and wondering if cutting it down would improve it (NOT saying it needs improving, just wondering if the change you''re considering in that area would indeed be a plus).

i can see both sides of that argument, and i wanted to make the point that i think the wider milgrain gives the small stone its own ''halo'' setting, and in some ways it ties it in with the lower half of the pendant more definitely than if it was a very narrow halo. as you said, it was difficult to see now - cut it down by 1/2, say, and i wonder if that extra texture would be lost to the naked eye altogether and if it wouldn''t coordinate top and bottom halves together so well. i think unless the milgrain is at least obvious to some degree it *might* give you a design disconnect between the two halves.

anyway, just a thought. i love it - love the proportions of it, and think it looks utterly fabbo on your neck.

good job and congratulations on your new piece!

This is probably the way to go! Overall though, it is really lovely Lauren. It looks gorgeous on you.

Very nice Lauren & I really like the layered look you have showed us. Your collection has grown and evolved into something very special!

Cellantini - thanks, dear! I think he did ok - I just should have laid off on finally picking it up since it seems he did a shoddy rush job on that miligrain. Lesson learned.

I don't have any decent pics of the back yet, but I'm going to be going in with some more inspiration pics since he didn't get what I was going for on the back, and it's essentially a solid piece of WG with a couple of infinity shaped drill marks out of the back. I drew pictures of lacey, flowery wrought iron, and it seems I just need to sit him down in front of the laptop to get my ideas across.

Vip0802 - thank you for your kind words! You have me blushing!

Whitby - appreciate your thoughts, woman. I'm wearing it by itself today, and now I'm not sure which way I want to go. I originally wanted miligrain on both pieces to tie them together, but after seeing the bad job he did on the top bezel, I'm glad I didn't insist on it. Do you think leaving it smooth with the same thickness of the bezel will detract from the antique feeling I was going for. I'm trying for an heirloom look, and well - it missed.

Icekid - thanks so much for the input! I think I'm going to sit on it for another day or two before I bring it back to have it updated.

Omieluv - thanks! Since I'm wearing it alone today, it's kind of cool to see it on its own. I adore the size of it, and I feel like it makes a statement all alone. It's just that darn miligrain!

hi lauren :)

i really wouldn''t do a smooth bezel which says ''modern'' to me.

i can definitely see the pros and cons in going either way - leaving it as is or redoing it with a more subtle milgrain. altho a fairly thick milgrain, it actually gives it a slight ''star burst'' effect, a common design motif from the deco period, so perhaps that accounts for the more positive imagine in my head when i look at it as is.

like a lot of things, i''d suggest you just live with it for a bit and see if it grows on you. if it doesn''t, send it out to be done in a more delicate style. but you might grow to love it. the problem might not be that you dislike it as it is -but rather that it''s jarring with the image you HAD in your head as to how it would look. i''d give ''the way it turned out'' a chance to take hold, and if it doesn''t, change then.

but i quite like that very obviously ''hand done'' look and the effect which, to me, is more like sun rays than milgrain. in deco design it was a common motif to express new life and it was a very popular image among artisans in australia around that period to represent australia''s federation, which occurred in 1901 - ergo right at the forefront of that design period. the image was also used in europe for various cultural and political reasons, and occurs in many designs of that age group.

anyway, just a thought. i vote ''give it a chance then re-think''

:)

Whitby, you're not making it any easier, dear.

LOL, MC. I think I may have a pic of it in the house thread. Let me go look.

OK, here you go. Chandelier in the bathroom. There''s a reason why so few of my chandelier pics came out . . . It''s rather terrifying standing on a bathtub, hanging a necklace from a glass chandelier, and knowing there''s nothing to use to steady yourself EXCEPT for that chandelier.

Very cool! We have a chandelier in our master bathroom, as well. . .yours is the only other one I''ve seen and it flatters your room wonderfully!

It is beautiful and what a gorgeous job the jeweler did on it. It looks stunning on you missy.

oh WOW, LTP- that is one GORGEOUS pendant!

WOW you have such good jewelry setting ideas. I think the pendant is just LOVELY. I did read about the milgrain situation and I too think that a smooth bezel would make it more of a modern item.

Thank you, TLH!

Linda W - I appreciate your kind words, dear. I still haven''t taken it back to my jeweler, as I''m taking Whitby''s very sage advice and "living with it" for a while. Maybe I just won''t take anymore macro pics of it, because frankly, in person I don''t even notice the "sunburst".

Thank you ChargerGrrl!

Stone Hunter - thank you! I still feel like that''s the way I will ultimately go. Just have to get the nerve to give it up for some fixes! I''ve worn it daily since I picked it up!
