Hello! I''m looking for a very well cut diamond, maybe GIA excellent or better. Would like it to be eye clean and probably an I in color or better. I''d also like to get a stone slightly larger that a carat, maybe a 1.05 or larger. Is this all possible for $4200?

Hi fr8train

Is it a round diamond you want and is the budget for the diamond alone, or does it need to cover the setting also?

Lorelei,

Diamond alone and yes, round

What is your preference? As in which is higher in your priority? $, carat, color or clarity?

Here are some suggestions. With PS discount and wire-transfer, the second stone should be just a bit above your budget, skipping some meals would pay for that... :p (EDT: Argh... Read wrongly about your budget, somehow tot it was 4.5k, will look again.)

Anyway, if interested, ask JA if they are eye-clean and request an Idealscope image and post it here when you get them.

Any concerns that some do not have excellent polish AND sym?? or is that overkill?

Overkill, no one will be able to notice the difference between VG and Ex unless you are a trained grader and looking at it with a loupe.

Thanks Stonecold,

And it won''t effect performance(sparkle)?

Some vendors say go with the triple excellents? I''d like to get an excellent cut but worried im paying a premium for the polish and sym being excellent

These are areas that can be relax without affecting the optical performance of the stone.

Unless you are looking for a H&A stone, then you will require a Ex optical symm which is not equivalent to a GIA Ex symm grade. For optical symm evaluation you will need to view a Hearts image through a H&A scope.

Called JA, 1236032 is no longer available

. I really liked the size!!

All others are eye clean. Does anyone see that one is better than the other? or other diamonds that look good as well? I really want it to sparkle and I could use some help.
THANKS!

Ya, that happens a lot.

This one has potential, you would need to ask for the grading report and if it is eyeclean

If eyeclean and the very thin girdle isn''t an issue, J colour can give you more size

Thanks Lorelei,

Are the twinning wisps a concern issue? I don''t want a "yellowish" stone, will a J face up white enough? I have seen plenty of I color stones that look good to me, never a J though. I guess if its got a ton of fire and brillance you won''t really notice the slight color grade variances anyways, correct??

To my eyes no difference between I and J colour with the cut qualities and type of lab grading above, maybe if you could view some J''s in person of similar size and cut quality ( try Jareds if one closeby for their Peerless brand) that would give you a better idea. Twinning wisps are not usually of concern, ask one of the gemologists to check it out for you and if the diamond is eyeclean.

Ok, cool. No Jared''s in the area but I will call JA and see what they say. Any thoughts on the I''s that stone cold suggested? Jus trying to get opinions because they are at the top of my list. Thanks to both of you by the way

Personal prefer. Some says it is a bonus for more tinted stone but at a medium level, will not be noticeable in most situations anyway.
