4 prong vs 6 prong…which do you prefer?

When I bought this a couple months ago I had it set in a low 4 prong….I didn’t care for it. I just got it back today in the 6 prong and I love it!! Different lighting in the 2 pics, but I think the 6 prong actually accentuates the diamond rather than cover. CEF272D8-2942-4AAD-9692-8236296073B0.jpeg B8826E66-F17B-41D4-9951-71B767885BAC.jpeg

Definitely 6! I even requested six for my oval stone that I decided to get re-set. Four prongs just doesn't look enough on a 2+ carat stone.

For me it's 6 over 4 for a round. 4 prongs makes the round IMO look squarish.
Six prongs perfectly complements the round shape.

For a round stone I prefer a 6 prong or 4 prongs but set "compass". UNLESS you want more of a cushion outline, then I love the antique style fishtail heads with triple beads. So pretty.

6 prong. The 4 prong looks square to me.

6 prong because I like the side profile better.

Gorgeous! Both look very nice but I think the 6 compliments the shape of the diamond better

Always 6 for me- as others have mentioned, it makes the diamond look more round when set, plus there is the bonus of protection, and should a prong be damaged, there are still 5 more so loss is a little less likely.

Gorgeous stone! Personally, I prefer the look of 4 prongs, but the security of 6. I had several rounds in 4 over the years and always changed them to six.

I prefer 6 for solitaire of 1ct & above, both for aesthetic & security but my 2tcw earrings are set in 4 simply because I prefer 4 when wearing with jackets.

I prefer 6 (or more) on bigger stones.

I always prefer 6 prong vs 4 in a round, even for stones under 1ct. Something about 4 prongs just bugs me...I think b it makes the diamond look squareish to my eyes

Your new ring looks gorgeous! :kiss2: The colour of the gold is spectacular too!

I'm also in the 6-prong camp for round stones; I dislike how four prongs make round stones look squarish. I think I may reset my round MRB studs—they're currently in a 4-prong martini which I hate now because they look so square on my lobes. Regretting that I didn't stick with the 3-prong...

People say 6 prongs cover up a round diamond too much but I don't see it at all... think they make the shape more "fluid". I prefer 4 prongs for ovals though.

6 prongs look so natural on an RB :kiss2:

Just my personal opinion, but I think 4-prong looks cheap unless it's in a designer setting that doesn't work with 6. It's definitely safer for the diamond in a 6.

I like 4 and 6 equally, but prefer 6 for solitaires and 4 prongs with halos.

I actually had a custom halo band made and just got it today. Because it is a jacket and. Reds a gap so the diamond can go up into it, it has to have the air line and I prefer it with the 6. B8D4AB8D-5A6D-4BB0-BB9B-DF08962891D9.jpeg

It's lovely, and I would have chosen 6 prongs for your project as well.

With a basket, 4.

Just prongs, 6.
