4-prong versus 6-prong setting

I have a diamond that I'd like to reset in a very simple solitaire setting. Aside from the obvious differences in style, what are the advantages/disadvantages of selecting a 4-prong versus a 6-prong setting? Does one of the settings make diamonds appear larger than the other? What would you recommend for a 1 carat stone versus a 1.5-2 carat one? Many thanks for any advice!

Very much personal preference.

I prefer 6 because it makes the diamond look rounder, and the 6 prongs can be each a bit smaller than the 4 (for the same strength).

Also 6 protects against chipping a little more than 4.

But many people prefer 4

6.5mm to 7.5mm makes little difference.
