I''m just full of questions today... What do you ladies think of diamond solitaire sitting on 4 prongs versus 6 prongs Tiffany style 18K white gold ring? Would 6 be "too busy?"

Depends on the prongs, the setting, and diamond size IMO. Can we have more info please?

The diamond is a GIA 1.0 carat H color VS2, VG symmetry and ideal round cut. I thought all Tiffany style rings are the same? The width of the ring is no more than 2mm (looking from top view at the solitaire) on a 3.75mm diameter finger.

I would prefer the 6 prong.

If we are talking strictly a Tiffany replica you have to go with 6 prongs. Their classic setting has 6 for round diamonds. On a 1 carat it can handle 6 delicate prongs IMO.

Do you know which replica you are looking at? This one is particularly nice IMO:

Looks just like the one in the picture! Except for the thinner band, otherwise everything else looks the same.

wife has a 4 and a 6 prong solitaire. i prefer the 6 prongs.

I like 6 better. 4 makes the stone seem squarish in my opinion, and I love the round shape.

I recently went through this debate and decided on 6 prong for safety. I''m happy with my choice.

i originally thought 6 0ver 4 for safety perposes but once i found out that 4 was jsut as good as 6, i went with 4...its purely an aesthetic thing. i think u can see the diamond more with 2 less prongs....its all up to u in the end

I went with a 4 prong. I think it makes the diamond look less round but it lets you see more of the diamond. I think it''s just personal preference.

This is my original 1 carat stone (which was not a real diamond). I had it reset into a 4 prong because I liked the look better. I think it is personal preference. I actually thought it made it look bigger!

I also prefer 6 prongs. I like the way it enhances the shape of a round diamond. FWIW, my e-ring is 1 carat and I don't think 6 prongs overwhelm it at all.

6

Go with 6 - I have a 4-prong setting but am planning to upgrade to a 6-prong setting. I think they make the stone look bigger. After I already had my setting, I went to the jewelry store and tried on two 2 ct solitaires - one with 4 prongs, on ewith 6. The 6-prong definitely makes the diamond look bigger, but only if the top & bottom prongs are set in the 12 & 6 o''clock positions.

I vote for 4 prongs.. (I''m biased for 4 prong though..

One of my friend has the scott kay 4 prong setting and another friend of mine has tiffany 6 prong setting.. Both diamond ring has a 1 carat diamond in it. The 4 prong setting just shows the diamond more.... When I saw my friend''s tiffany ring, all I see is the prong.. I think 6 prong looks nice when the diamond is <1.50 carat...

if you want something that looks just like the classic tiffany solitaire - go for 6. my preference after trying on tons of rings, and pouring over the eye-candy on this site is 4 prongs. i agree that it makes the stone look larger and less round. gives me more versatility - from some angles, at quick glance, my stone appears more square. tilt it a little more, and it''s definitely round. i like options!
good luck!

For a round solitaire, 6 prongs all the way. If you are going the replica route, make sure the prongs and tiny, thin, and sharp! I have seen some replicas where the prongs just look too bulky.

6..I too changed from 4 to 6 (SOOOooooo happy I did), the ring looke so different, and the diamond alot bigger! Mine is 1.76 carats.

I think for that size, the 6 prong would look lovely.

For a 1 ct, I''d prefer 4 prongs. Six would overwhelm the stone.

I must admit, wow your ring is gorgeous. I love the 4 prongsl!!!

I''m in the 6 prong camp too (mine''s just over 1 ct)

I''m in the 6 prong camp as well. I did love the look of 4 prongs on an RB .. gave it a more versatile look - kind of round, kind of square, however when it came down to safety I just had to stay with 6 prongs. Plus Mark Morrell wont do his signature settings in a 4 prong version so that basically made my decision for me. And the prongs are so small and delicate they definitley do not overwhelm the stone.

To me, either 4 or 6 prongs are equally as fabulous if you are able to get someone who can do very delicate, unintrusive prongs. If not, the result can be a disaster!

I like 4 prongs better...you see more of the beautiful diamond!

Wishful, what kind of style is that ring in your avatar? It looks pretty nice.

I like the look of 6 prongs. Mine is .81 and I don''t feel like the prongs overpower the diamond at all.
