To me, either 4 or 6 prongs are equally as fabulous if you are able to get someone who can do very delicate, unintrusive prongs. If not, the result can be a disaster!

Good point! unintrusive is important, while also remaining strong.

(Oh, and thank you MC and MMT!! I like it even more now that I have my real diamond! We were saving for a house originally... can''t live in a diamond! )

I say 4, hands down. I have never liked six-prong settings. I prefer the squarish look that 4 prongs give a round diamond (but I''m biased because I prefer princesses over rounds anyway). Plus, I think 6 prongs hide a lot of the diamond.

Wow.. thanks alot for the link!! WISHFUL'S ring took my breath away, even though I'm a guy! Damn. If that Mark Morrell designer were living where I am, I'm definitely taking my business to him! As it stands, I have to jump through hoops to get my diamond to him (which I completely understand and wouldn't have it any other way).

I think for small stones, 4
and...
bigger stones, 6

my gf told me that with a 4 prong, if one prong comes off you will loose the diamond. with a 6 prong, 2 side x side prongs have to come off before the diamond falls out. not sure if that''s true of not but it gave me reason to get a 6 prong for my 1.2 ct. my prongs are small so they the ring doesn''t look "prongy". better safe than sorry.
