Hi all,
Seems the more I learn about diamonds the more our criteria changes & the more uncomfortable I feel about completing a purchase.
The link below is to 4 stones at james allen. Assuming they are eye clean, do any of these stand out from the others?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/diamond-comparison.asp?p=1259391,1259915,1260882,1265589

BTW - Is it possible to contact forum members via thier profile? I was hoping to get some advice from Lorelie pertaining to some vendors that probably shouldn''t be posted here.

Thanks again!

Nope, no PM function.

You can't PM people. But ask your questions, there are no taboo topics.

Numbers 2 and 4 don' tcheck out on the HCA, and number 3, although scoring under 2, would not make the cut for AGS0 which makes me like it a little less.

Number 1 looks like a contender. Call and ask for an IS image and also ask them about whether it is eye clean to your standards.

ETA You will get more replies if you post the information here rather than making people work to help you out

1 and 3 looks promising. Ask for IS.

thanks Dreamer. I tried several times to cut and paste the info directly from the JA website but it wouldn''t paste correctly (see below).
Thought it''d be easier to paste the link then ask people to decipher the data below. Number 1 seemed the best option to me as well but not sure I trust my own opinion yet.

I guess it''s OK to openly talk about various offers & pros/cons about competeing vendors?

Thanks SC. I''ll get images and post them back.

I was also offered a 1.32 J VS2 from another vendor that is likely almost H&A for about the same price and just waiting for images to post.
Since they are all ~ the same size & price, I guess the trade off is having a VS2 J or a an SI2 I?

Assuming stones are eye clean and of the same proportions, which would the majority prefer - VS2 J or SI2 I?

TYTYTY!

I''m a color person, so I would go for the higher I over the J any day. But other people may prioritize clarity over color, it''s all individual preference.

I would go for I color too if it is eye-clean.

Hi Kolchak

Sorry no way to contact me off the forums but I will gladly do what I can to help you here. Post the images when you have them, I prefer the first diamond providing the cloud inclusions aren't impacting performance and it is eyeclean. The third diamond also has potential if the knot inclusions check out and again it is eyeclean.

Thanks Lorelie - I really appreciate your input along with everyone else here. I had a question about protocol of naming specific vendors & saying exactly what I was being offered because I didn''t want to come accross as tacky or rude.

Just came across another stone for ~ same price as the 4 stones mentioned above & wondering what you think of this. Unfortunately I can''t get the cut & paste function to work from my office computer but I will post images from home later. In the meantime, the specs are as follows -

1.3
7.07 - 7.13 x 4.26mm
I
SI1
triple excellent
The GIA report # is 2115122903
57%, 34.0 degree, 40.6 degree
Comments - additional twinning wisps are not shown, Surface graining is not shown.

Lastly, the platinum Ritani setting & band I''ve already purchased has G colored stones. Should I be looking for a higher color then I?
thanks again!

Hi Kolchak

No worries, I quite understand. This diamond has potential but definitely need an Idealscope image for it so I will hold on until you can post it to give you a definite opinion. General advice is to keep side and centre stones within 2 colour grades so I should be fine with G colour.

Hi
this is the aset pic for the 1.3
more to come...

Lastly here is the live zoom for this stone -

Comments - additional twinning wisps are not shown, Surface graining is not shown.I can def see the wisps in this pic.....would it still be considered "eye clean?"

It looks like the diamond is showing slight obstruction ( visible darkening of the diamond due to head/ surroundings shadow) but it doesn't look to be terrible. Can you ask the vendor to check this for you? Ask them if the twinning wisps are visible too.

Thanks Lorelie.
Vendors says its 100% eye clean & beautiful. The cut advisor returns a score of .6 and 4 excellents (if I''m entering the correct numbers from the profile diagram). The Gia cert gives it triple excellent.
It seems great & the price is slightly lower then all of the diamonds I mentioned from JA. I guess this could the one?

You are welcome! I would just ask the vendor to check the diamond for obstruction ( this is where the diamond goes dark when held and observed close to the body), if this isn''t an issue then thats great.
