3 stone or pave halo

Which would have greater “bling” effect: 3 stone BGS (.85 ct center, .25 sides), or pave halo (with Ritani melee)?

I’m thinking that the 3xBGS would be a light show, and it’s only slightly above my budget (ie I’m willing to go there). It’s super classic, and while “safe,” the quality of the diamonds will give it a wow factor. 3 stone trellis would be my choice.

I'm really concerned that the melee of pave won't sparkle as much as I want them to.

They are 2 total different looks. I would personally go to a local jewelry store and try both styles on to see what you like best. My personal preference would proably be the halo, but I'm a halo girl :saint:

I agree with SB - two completely different looks and both a blingy, just in different ways. Quality melee will absolutely sparkle, but so will well cut side stones. It really comes down to style and personal preference.

Thritto - completely different looks, and some women have strong preferences for one over the other. Sarah's a halo girl, I'm a three-stone girl ::)

Go try some on? Ask sister/friend/mother to poke around?

Ritani melee is extremely sparkly, so don't worry about that.

Does she have a pinterest? Could you stalk it? See if she's pinned any 3stone rings?

As everyone has said... different looks altogether. A three stone is definitely gonna be a light show, however... if you decide to go with a halo, you could get a much larger stone by pooling the funds from the three stones - BOOM!!! **MEGA-WATT LIGHTSHOW** :naughty: Just a suggestion. ;))

Ultimately you have to get what's most appealing to you. You really can't go wrong - can't wait to see what you decide!

WHat number would this be?? Quadrito?? Quintritto??? I think I'm making up words here!! LOL!!

I lust after both styles so I'm also in the same boat - can't make a decision that one is better than the other!!

I have a 3 stone and it has fabulous finger WIDTH coverage, where as a halo gives you symmetrical (assuming you are going round centre stone) width AND DEPTH.

What finger size are we talking about covering here?? I'm a size 8, so I'd need a really big centre stone for the same width coverage a 3 stone would give me. Just throwin' that out there....

Good point, Enerchi... some of the teeny tiny fingers have trouble accommodating a three stone. (Oh, to have this "problem"...)

None have halos. Most have 6-prong solitaires that moderately sparkle. A few of her friends (and her sister) have 3 stones, but with baguette sides (look like they came with the setting). Her sister’s center diamond, however, is among the best performers I’ve ever seen IRL, and it’s what prompted me to get on PS and buy the best cut diamond I could.

She doesn’t Pinterest, and frankly doesn’t think too much about jewelry. I actually tend to be more fashion/style conscious, which is kind of a running joke. She has a nice collection of flower-themed earrings, and the one thing she wears everyday is a yellow 18 kt Mary medal. When I asked about what kind of e-rings she likes, she said “Umm, I’m not sure. What kind of rings do you like?” I named a few of her friends’ rings that I liked, and she was content with all of them. I critiqued things I didn’t like about some rings, and she said “Oh, I didn’t notice that, but I can see it now.” She doesn’t notice the sizes of some of her friends’ diamonds... in fact, one has a massive, massive princess... didn’t notice lol.

I’d describe her style as classy New England + Asian + a little bohemian.

I like the Ritani bezel halo because it’s clean and balanced; I like the 3 stone Brian Gavin Trellis because it’s timeless, and the flow of the trellis has very natural lines (almost reminds me of a garden—playing on her love of flower earrings).

Is it weird for a dude to try on rings in a jewelry store? We're about the same finger size (maybe 1/4 off)--in the 5's. I think I need to see them in person. What is the etiquette for exploring settings in person when I have almost no intention of buying from them?

My 3 stone is trellis modified for princess cuts, from BGD as well, and I am completely in love with that style of setting. It is open and airy and fluid and graceful... (see my avatar)

Tough call - halo's and the BGD trellis are both beautiful designs. The advantage of the halo, is just as you pointed out - you can rock a much larger centre stone for the price of purchasing 3 other stones. While the 3 stone is similar to her sisters, but VERY different compared to side baguettes. She would not be 'copying' if that's at all a thought dancing in your head - the BGD 3 stone trellis is a completely different kettle of fish from a baguette side stone design.

Oh! Question. Will you be doing it in yellow gold??

On a size 5 a three stone will be nice finger coverage, but let me bring this up, what's her lifestyle? Because a bezel will be safer if she's clumsy or rough on her hands or more laid back.

I consider three stones fancier. So if she is more girly girl, I might go that route.

I had both that ritani and a multi stone ring. The Ritani felt blingy, but more dressed down and effortlessly, sometimes with my 5 stone I feel too fancy for my tough gal or tomboy clothes.

Something to consider.

If only this wasn't so much $$$$

I have one of each- the three stone has similar proportions to the one you're considering. I will say that pave bothers my fingers, to the point where I'm thinking of selling the halo ring.

oooh, Logan Sapphire - your 3 stone sealed the deal in MY mind! If those are the same proportions that OP is thinking of - that's fabulous finger width coverage!!

I’ve already bought the 0.84 ct center stone for an anomalously low price. I would only use the BGS upgrade to get over 1.1 ct, which is at least 2x the price of what I paid for the 0.84... so a no-go at this time. One thing to think about is if I do the 3-stone, I could upgrade the 0.84 carat in the future, and make the side stones into diamond earrings :)

Interestingly, the 3 stone trellis setting+side stones is the same price as the ritani halo+pave side; Ctw for the 3-stone is 1.35; Ctw for the halo is 1.15 .

Lifestyle is not crazy active-- we bike, play tennis, do lots of cooking, sometimes hike but no rock climbing/bashing stuff. She works with kids on the weekend, but her actual work environment during the week is office-oriented.

That said, I’m cognizant of the fact that wearing an e-ring can be a PITA even for things like washing hands and cooking, especially for someone who doesn’t normally wear rings. That’s another reason I like the bezel.

One question I’m not sure if I should be considering is this: in 20 years if she still had the ring as is, which style would she be more likely to wear? My feeling is the 3 stone trellis is better able to weather through fashion trends.

I'd love to do YG because it looks so good on her skin tone, but I'll have to see some more YG diamond settings in person. I def prefer to have yg wedding bands. If not YG, then unplated WG.

I wanted to show you some bezel halo with colored gold shanks.

I think the three stone is more timeless, and from your description of her, it sounds like it might suit her more than a halo.

+1.

Classic, elegant and timeless, never go out of style. As your lives change and you may upgrade, great idea about using sides as studs later.
