I have two GIA certified 1.5 carat round diamonds that I am looking at for a pair of studs. They are both G, SI2. The cut grade is very good while the polish and symmetry on one is excellent and the other is very good. They are pretty eye clean and sparkle nicely. The jeweler is asking $20k. Is this too much? If it is, about what should I expect to pay?

Can you post the GIA reports so we can see if they are well matched and if the cut is good enough? All you need is the exact weight o each stone and the GIA report number and they can be looked up on the GIA site. I'll try to check prices, but honestly, if I were putting $20k into studs, I would only consider GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal cut.

GIA report 2141591376 1.50 carat

Seems to just be a straight retail price. I would want GIA EX's with an HCA under 3 and would EASILY drop down to I SI1 for them. You don't need G's in your ears. Concentrate on light return.

Honestly After playing the stud game and spending hours on this web site I will only purchase IDEAL CUT stones. I'd rather go slightly down in size to stay within the $20,000 budget or go down in Color and still stay at S11 as long as they are eye clean.

So I guess the answer to your initial question is $20,000 is alot of money to spend on stones that will not give you the most sparkle for yur nickel.......I understand size may matter I ended up with 2.41 total carats as I wanted idea cut stones and got beauties .....
