3.30 Ct Eternity band too much for my 2.4 ct Solitaire?

Hi!

So I posted a few weeks ago needing advice about eternity bands, and now, the Fiance and I have started shopping!! I found a 3.30 carat eternity band (made up of 20 pointers) that I really really liked. I'm just wondering if you all think that would be too much for my 2.4 carat solitaire. The solitaire is in a Cartier-style cathedral setting. Would the band be overpowering? or too blingy (if there is such a thing)?

Sorry I don't have pics of the eternity band w/ my ring. But, from a theoretical stand point what do you all think?

You are right it is a very personal choice. That being said your solitaire is VERY substantial and I think it can totally stand up to that size eternity band. What type of setting are you looking at? Uprong, stright prong ??

Can not wait to see what you decide.

Personally, for me, I prefer a more dainty look. HOWEVER, I really admire those who have lots of bling :D

Without seeing it, I think I have to go with lovemybling and say that since your solitaire is pretty substantial it would probably be just fine and look great!

Do you have any photos of your e-ring? If it's low set I would be concerned about rubbing. But I think that sized eternity band would be fine.

Also, the jeweler told me that the rubbing issue is silly and that there are plenty of more dangerous things you can do to damage an ering, so i'm not too concerned about that as of now.

First of all, your engagement ring is beautiful!

As for the eternity band you're considering... such a matter of personal preference, but I would have to see them together to make a better decision. However, it's YOUR set, and if you love it, go for it!

Finally, I respectuvally disagree with your jeweler on the rubbing issue being silly. I have worn my three stone sapphire and diamond ring with my eternity band not that many times, and there are visible gouges where the exposed girdles of the eternity band diamonds are eating into the prongs of the three stone. You may want to consider that a little further before making a decision, especially if this is a set you're going to wear together every day. Or, I know some PSers wear a small spacer between their e-rings and eternity bands, so this may be another option.

I have a 2.22 center stone (happens to be in a three stone setting). I also have a five stone band with .20 stones each. I do not wear these rings together as they were never intended for that. However, If I put my three stone ring on, hide the two sidestones, with the five stone band (from the top of the hand it looks like eternity because the stones go finger to finger), it is way too much.

My ering is rather low set as well and although my center stone is much bigger than the .20 stones in the band, it all blends together in one big bling. That may be the look you are going for and if so, you will have plenty of bling! If you still want the solitaire to be the star of the show so to speak, I'd really consider cutting down on the stone size of the eternity band.

Many people here have found the diamonds in a shared prong setting do indeed cut into the prongs of their ering. Your jeweler may not have had experience with it or he might just really want to sell you the band, but it should be a real consideration. You could consider a spacer band to wear in between the two rings or possibly think about a channel set eternity band.

The only thing I can suggest is that you try on lots of different carat weight bands with your ering to find exactly the look you are going for. It might be that the 3.30 eternity band fits the bill just fine for you and if it does, great! It is just a bit overwhelming to my eye as I still like the ering to really shine on its own without a lot of competition.

If you get to go out shopping and trying on again, please take some pics for us - would love to see all your possibilities!

Are you thinking about getting it through IDJewelry?? Their prices are FANTASTIC. I am thinking about a 15 or 20 pointer eternity band myself through them. I cant wait to see what you decide. I have huggies coming this week from IDJ with 20 pointers (2ctw). If I like the quality of the stones in my huggies then I will order the eternity band. I am nervous though about the quality (at that price is seems like a steal--too good to be true almost).

And about your original question...You have the kind of stone that can handle 20 pointers  I think a 20 pointer would be PERFECT but YOU WILL NEED A SPACER. The girldles of the diamonds will ruin your prongs of your e-ring. Try doing a search on the topic here at PS...there are alot of people that have had that problem.

I agree with PP that it might all blend together into one gigantic bling, which is great if that's the look you're going for. I would not be comfortable wearing that look every day so you need to consider your environment. I wear my 3ct eternity by itself as it's substantial enough on its own.

My stone is 2.34 and my eternity is made of 18 pointers. I love the look. It's definitely blingy but not overpowering! BGD made my eternity and it still stuns me on a daily basis. I get compliments on it all the time!

my eternity band is made up of .20 pointers and my ering is 2.5 (although in a halo) and i don't think it's too much. i don't wear them together that often, namely because i hate the fact that the eternity band scratches the shank of my e-ring. but when i do stack them, i love the way it has so much bling! so i say, do it! here's a pic for reference.

I ordered a 5 stone with 32 pointers to go with my 3.18 :cheeky: so no... wouldn't be "too much" for me 8-)

I have a similar combination as yours. here is a picture for you. I have a 2.23 ering and a five stone u prong each 36pt.

Some people say it is too much, some like it. But it is definitely very eye catching. I rarely wear them together.

LAG and Kidodo, I LOVE your sets, and Kidodo, why don't you wear yours together much? it definitely is blingy but I think its gorgeous together! What do you normally do then, wear your e-ring on your right hand? My eternity band would definitely be significantly smaller than yours, more along the lines of your solitaire with LAG's band.

I think I am going to go for it! That way, I can wear them together and also have something that is substantial enough to wear by itself.

Thanks for your input!
