hi all-

everyone is so very good with finding pictures i was hoping you could help....

i''m looking for a tension setting, on a 2mm or smaller band ... i''m not looking for a huge center diamond either.. between .3-.5 center stone.

thanks in advance for all of your help!!!!!!

a .30ct diamond is about 4.2mm and a .50ct diamond is about 5.0mm in diameter. A 2mm or less band to hold such stones could not be made as the contact area would be insufficient to prevent stone side slippage or loss. Also, at that width, I doubt the ring could be strong enough to actually hold a diamond by spring pressure.

Have you seen such a ring somewhere?

no.. i was just looking for something dainty and sparkly and modern... but it looks as if i can''t have it all with a tension... i''ll have to look for something else... what do you think is the smallest mm band that could accommodate a .3-.5 center stone?

the smallest mm tension band, or just band in general? 2mm is very very small. you might find some that are a few tenths smaller but it wouldn''t be very noticable without direct comparison.

this picture is of two 1.8(ish)mm bands together with a .65 center in the ering.

I wouldn''t recommend going below around 3mm wide on a tension set. That''s for titanium. A gold or platinum one would probably have to go even thicker. A thin tension set with a big stone is a dangerous combination because it would take less force to dislodge the stone if the ring took a side hit.

ah ha! there''s actually science behind why it won''t work... i guess i could do a dainty half bezel that would have the same effect.

the reason i ask is because i am looking for something to go between two shared prong bands... i don''t want the center band to look too much like an engagement ring (as the shared prong bands will be my e-ring) but i did want something with a little sparkle and on the same scale for my wedding ring (i know, we are doing things totally backwards) ... i thought a dainty tension with a small but beautiful diamond would look awesome.... but i didn''t want the mm of the center band to overtake the shared prong bands which will be approx 3.4mm .... (boy, did that make any sense?)

so..... off to find a modern dainty clean look ring.... ;) and if anyone has some time on their hands i''d love to see your idea pictures!!!!!!!
