26th Anniversary Upgrade

Oh this is definitely a forever ring. What would you upgrade to?? New pieces will have to be the way if you ever feel the itch. This one is perfect.

I keep confusing you with MGR with your new avatar lol

What would I upgrade to? Maybe the same thing, but bigger:lol:. I just dont see the need for that...this is huge in my neck of the woods
and I'm delighted with it!

On quick glance, it's got the same top look as MGR, so I can see why it would be confusing. Maybe I need to add "tyty333" below or
above my ring on my avatar? I'll play with that today and see what I come up with!

So glad you are so happy - it really is beautiful even if I am biased!!

Absolutely stunning and bling-a-licious on your hand!! The ratio is perfect! Looks huge on your beautiful small dainty hands!!! Congrats and happy 25th!!!

Ugh... this is stunning. Big congrats and happy anniversary!!

Thank you @ZestfullyBling ! My dainty hand/finger is very tiny 6.5! :oops2::lol:

Based on this ring, everyone should do a 26th, C'mon, the bar is set high.

@Ibrakeforpossums If I weren't so indecisive, it could have been a 25th! That one's on me! In the end, though,
I feel like I got it right!

Thanks so much, @Autumn in New England ! I appreciate your kind words!

Just curious @tyty333 - was it the selecting of diamonds or trying to figure out the sizing that kept you indecisive? These pieces can be difficult to decide on and they are very expensive. We often see posters coming here having a hard time making a choice, but they are also often not very knowledgeable about diamonds.

At any rate, your indecisiveness led you to this beautiful ring so I am assuming it all worked out for the best

Beautiful!!!! I love the proportions! They are ever so perfect! I would love to do the same with some CS!

Good question.
Short answer... It was both the selection of a diamond(s) and the sizing/ratio.

Long and tediously detailed answer...feel free to skip:lol:

Plan A...I spent quite a bit of time trying to upgrade my 1.66 K/SI1. In this case, I would keep it as a solitaire.
Unfortunately, budget and my indecisiveness kept me from jumping on some stones early on, and I missed out. I was hoping to
get over 2 carats in a J+ (in budget). Once I realized that it probably wasn't going to happen, I moved on to Plan B.

Plan B... I was looking for more finger coverage, and a 3 stone would definitely give me the E/W finger coverage I desired. So, I
would keep my 1.66 K/SI1 and add 2 larger sides. I was looking at .7ish stones. I actually ordered a .70 I/SI1 stone, but when I saw
it next to my K, it was a no-go color-wise. We've always talked about staying within 2 color grades of the main stone, but I don't
think that works in the I-K color range. That stone went back.

I started to think about what would really make me happy. Upgrading the color of my center stone AND creating a 3-stone
was the answer!

Plan C...So, back to looking for a new center stone. It would be under 2 carats, but I was ok with that at this point. I just wanted
a pretty center stone with mostly undecernible tint. In the meantime, I tried to figure out what size sides I wanted. I created a table with links to different PSers' 3 stone rings. The table contained... size of the main stone(carat and mm), side stone size, ratio, and what size side stones I would need to have the same look/ratio. (Your ring was in my list @MissGotRocks )

A 1.71 I/SI1 ES popped up at Whiteflash, and I had it sent to me. I knew pretty quickly that it was what I wanted. The process of returning my 1.66, having it checked by GIA, etc. took a while. At that point, I had decided that I wanted to be in the 65% ratio
range. I already owned a .46 J/SI Super Ideal, which put me at 64%...good enough! Now, I had to find another .46 stone to go
with it. I ended up a .46 I/SI1 from Blue Nile.

Then the whole ring design process and creation with DK! That took about 7 weeks (not too bad).

You wouldn't think these things would take so much time, but if you switch direction a time or two, it seems like it can drag on
and on! I, for one, am glad it's done and I can sit back and enjoy! Whew!

So interesting - thanks for sharing your story. If we could handpick all of the colors and sizes, it would be a perfect world. Your process seems very well thought out and the results show it. I have thought about going larger with a solitaire, but after having a three stone, it would be hard to do. In the end, I think you made excellent choice and I so understand being glad it is over. Now you can just enjoy all the sparkles!

What a beautiful 3-stone, @tyty333 ! I love the proportions and the setting…and the diamonds are beautiful! I enjoyed reading about your planning and thoughts that got you here. Making jewelry decisions is rarely straightforward for me, so I can relate to your journey. I’m happy to see that your waiting and planning resulted in a beautiful ring.

And thanks for putting the tyty333 on your avatar…I keep getting you and MGR mixed up…:)

Thank you for your sweet thoughts @Patty ! I know many of us feel the "pain" of going through the design/decision process with a new
piece! I guess, in the long run, it's a "good" pain!:shock:

You're not the first to comment that they keep getting my avatar confused with MGR! I'm glad the name helps!

I always spend a long time on my projects. I like the process and having a project so it doesn’t feel too onerous. Your timeline and process seems totally reasonable and normal to me lol

I agree with you about color matching in the K and lower range. My three and five stones each include K and L diamonds which is close enough I cannot discern the color difference except barely when they were loose and upside down. But I considered a J color for a side stone in my three stone at one point and I could easily see the difference from my K center. The color grades really expand and the difference between grades becomes so much more apparent lower in the alphabet.
