In case you thought product/fashion/furniture/car colors were accidental, think again! There are industry gurus that come up with this stuff, and here is their pick for 2011:

Yup, dusty pink with a touch of yellow. Coming soon to an accent pillow/dress/sweater near you. :D

It'll take most manufacturers about a year to catch up, so expect to see it in store in 2012.

What do you think? Love it, hate it?

Oh, dear.

I'm not much of a pink girl. I guess it could be worse, but ... c'mon, people! Peacock, alizarin, cerulean, burgundy, aubergine ... there are so many vivid, beautiful colors to choose from! Why not live a little?

I think that it is a pretty color for accent. I am not sure that I would like a whole sweater or jacket in that color, but a scarf would be alright.

well, as a girly girl, I'm ok with it. But as "the color of the year" - ugh. Have a feeling this won't have much impact. Wasn't "Turquoise"
the color of the year for 2010 ? For me turquoise was a throw back to the 60's, a very retro, cool vibe. This pink reminds me of the dusty mauve color that was so popular many years ago. Maybe because I saw so much of it I don't like it.

I love it! It doesn't look dusty at all to me, though. Certainly nowhere close to the 1980s dusty rose.

That's what I was thinking. I like it, though. But I really like pink! (Says the woman with a pink water jug on her desk, a pink Droid case, and pink headphones. I'm a dork.)

Great.
Now I'll throw away all my perfectly good stuff in last years color and go shopping.

IOW, ROLLSEYES!

We are being manipulated out of our money, people.

maybe there is a honeysuckle FCD in kenny's future? not sure how GIA would name that

:Up_to_something:

Well i like the colour, but i dont like how someone is telling me that " The color of the year is..." strictly, because i dont want someone pushing a color on me. Other than that, is pretty, just a touch here and there would be nice.

I'm not sure what "accent color of the year" means, but I love the color! I am a total pink girl (in small amounts... no pink walls or pink accessories in my house.)

It's okay but I was really hoping for something different. I hope I'm not going to be seeing a lot in the shelter magazines and blogs like I saw turquoise. A little goes a long way in this color for sure!

Love it, although I love pink - hence hello kitty in pink

I don't see how we're being manipulated out of money. No one has to go out and buy those things, in those colors.

It's an ok color but I don't think it will effect me either way. I always think it's silly when I hear "_____ is the new black"

I don't understand why that color is called honeysuckle.

I am already seeing that color in the stores. I don't understand the name either.

I love this color! I wasn't a pink girl until I had a girl myself. Unfortunately, almost all of the outfits/shoes have some sort of pink in it and the color has really grown on me. That color in particular is very pretty, especially as an accent!

or maybe TWO honeysuckle colored FCDs!

I certainly won't be redoing my house to accommodate this color, but a pretty throw pillow won't hurt. It's not awful.

Reminds me of a scene in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" (don't know if it was in the book the movie was based on because I never read it) in which Meryl Streep is explaining to Anne Hathaway exactly why her "blue" sweater isn't just "blue," it's "cerulean." Same concept--a couture designer showed several things in cerulean blue on the European runways and the trickle-down effect manifested itself in (Streep's character's words) "some pathetic Casual Corner."

It's much like the trends of avocado-colored appliances in the 1970's, or rust-colored shag carpet...or stainless steel in recent years. I seriously doubt that this pink will become THE new fashionable dishwasher color, but with the inundation of pink (ipods, laptops, etc.) it doesn't surprise me that industries are taking pink to a whole new level by voting it accent color of the year for '11.

Yup. That's the whole point of this silly stuff; money.

Ahh . . . grasshopper (dragonfly ;) ) . . . free will is but an illusion . . .

it's like that saying "even a blind chameleon changes color to match it's background" (actually it's not a saying, it's just a science fact that I thought would make my point): Eventually, the colors chosen by these marketers will work it's way into everything we see, we will have no options, because manufacturers make stuff using these dictated colors and we can't buy anything else.

Case in point: when was the last time you bought/saw a pink shirt with grey trim? This was a HUGELY popular color combo in the 1920's, but it's rare out there now (ditto for peach with grey). The manufacturers just don't make it available.

Okay, let's see how the Pantone gurus did in the past:

Below are their "colors of the year" for previous years.

What do you think? Is this stuff in your house, somewhere? Or did we all just ignore them?

I can answer that at least about interiors! Turquoise has been very prominent for a few years now. It made it's first debut when everyone was pairing it with chocolate brown and then it moved on to being paired with white and has been featured even more prominently layered in a more monochromatic fashion.
The other colors, not so much. I'm hearing navy blue will be coming in pretty strongly but we'll have to see how that goes. It's one of my favorite color, so I hope so.

I love the color!!!!

A grey suit with a pink shirt is one of my favourite combinations. I wear it quite often. I guess I am old fashioned.

I have zero of those colors in my house lol. We have moss greens, whites, browns, tans. I don't even own clothes in those colors.....

I'd buy a shirt if it was this new color pink. I like pink though.

That mustard yellow color is suddenly all over commercial property and new apartment buildings, always paired with some similarly wildly unattractive colors, usually browns and dark greens I believe. I hate it. I rather miss the cool greys everything was painted in the 1990s. I guess the mustard yellow is a bit more, um, interesting, but I'm just not a fan.

As far as the pink. Not a fan of that either, but better than the yellow.
