Mine? Let''s see - I took someones advice on here who talked about Love Languages, and I ended up asking my bf how he feels loved by me. He said he feels loved by me when I buy things for him or do things for him.

My New Years Resolution: Once a month, on the 18th of every month (our anniversary - first date - is June 18), I will make sure to give him a small present to show my affection. I don''t do that enough.

Oh goodness, it seems so early to think about this! MIne are -

1) Lose weight, live healthier
2) Live happier - actually do the things I set out to do, complete projects, and be proud of my accomplishments (feeling overwhelmed/behind really bogged me down in the past year)
3) And this is the most important - spend more time showing (instead of telling) my husband exactly how much he means to me and how much I love him.

Maybe it is too early... 5 days and counting!!!

See, I agree with #3 - I need to show him more how much he means to me too.
I should have actually listed that I need to get on cranking out my dissertation work. I am slacking too much!!

Of course, I will try to work out more... (Kind of the status quo resolutions...) But I really did used to work out every day, and it''s been hard since I started this job. I also want to try to SAVE MORE MONEY!! We are pretty good at saving, but lately we''ve been buying, buying, buying.

My three are lose weight, study more and save cash.

I''m going to spend 2009 without the words "should" or "ought". No "I should do that" or "I ought to do this". No. I either will or won''t do something, and it''ll be for my own reasons. Should and ought are me focusing on what other people think I should (see, there it is) do. I will do things for my own reasons.

Also, I''m going to do things just because I want to, without feeling obligated to explain myself. I''ll be frivolous.

And I''m going to save more money.

1. To get back into my exercise routine and lose weight.
2. Save money!
3. To not let the little things in life bother me so much!

Major weight loss. Guaranteed.

I saw what I weighed last week at the doctor''s office. I''m appalled. There is no more room for blaming aging, pero-menopause, use of the Pill, and so on. This needs to be addressed now. This year. Without fail.

Anybody with me?

Starting January 1st, there will be major lifestyle changes for me. I''m dropping carbs; cutting portiions; and getting my rear in gear. My sister''s best friend did it; at my wedding Oct ''07 she probably weighed over 250; one year later she was well on her way to being half that size. Controlling portions, watching carbs, and walking her dogs everyday caused her to lose close to 70 pounds in a year.

This time next year, I will be . . . . . FABULOUS!!

Cool resolutions everyone - princess, yours is very inspiring

HollyS - best of luck with yours, I know how you feel - I was in your shoes two years ago. I too, started seriously watching what I ate (by writing it down on Sparkpeople) and exercising more consistently and I lost about 50 lbs in a little over a year. I''m sure you can do it - good luck!

My resolutions this year are to take off the 3-5 lbs I''ve put on over the holidays (same thing as last year - I decided its not a big deal since I know exactly how to get it off
3.gif
), and to finish my PhD - that will be my biggest task for this year, and probably the most stressful. But I''ve got my dream job (with a tentative start date in August
23.gif
) waiting for me at the other end, so I''m hopeful I can do it

Lose weight, I had lost 25 lbs but gained 10 of them back (nasty new meds that the dr changed) so I need to lose that again and more, and I must get back to the treadmill, I stopped due to some health issues, but I think that is taken care of now and I want to drink less wine and eat healthier

I was just thinking about this recently.

1)Live healthier - eat better, join a gym with FF
2)Finish my masters degree
3)Get more done for school in a more timely fashion - I procrastinate on my grading
4)Read more books
5)Be a more adventurous cook
6)Make some new friends and keep in touch better with my current ones

I think mine are pretty typical, but here goes:

1) Shape up. Holly--I am so with you. I used to be in really good shape, and now I feel like a huge pile of mush. I haven''t gained much weight, per se, but the weight I do have has changed from serious muscle to serious fat. And I don''t feel very good about myself. See you in the Healthier Lifestyle thread? I''ve actually been looking for a quality indoor trainer for my bicycle so I can ride indoors the rest of winter.

2) Be more "me". I need to reconnect with my favorite hobbies and activities. I''ve allowed my job and other ''duties'' to suck up all of my time, so I haven''t been reading for pleasure, hiking, doing calligraphy, learning to play guitar, exploring languages, planning trips, writing, etc. I need to do more of that, and I plan to do at least one hour of something just for me every day.

3) Love on my hubby. I need to show him how much I love him more, and I''m not talking anything dirty. I mean the little things, I need to do more of that.

4) Socialize. I like being alone, but I''ve neglected some of my best friendships over the last few years. I need to get out of my little bubble. This includes entertaining more in our home.

5) Dance! Hubby has wanted to take tango lessons with me ever since his trip to Buenos Aires a few years ago.

6) The Haven. My life''s dream. I need to get started on making it happen. I wrote about it ad naseum in my Who''s Who thread, if anyone''s interested.

1) Finish my honors thesis all the way to the END [undergrad]. Not give up even when it feels impossible! And graduate!!
2) Do my absolute best in school and procrastinate less.
3) NOT stress as much. I make myself physically sick with worry every single day and it needs to stop.
4) Learn to cook at least a few things.
5) Save as much money as possible for our big move this summer [across the country].

This is the coolest resolution-type thing I''ve ever seen. I''m sure some of you have heard about it, it''s 101 in 1001. I always offer this project to my creative writing students as an option, and some from several years ago have contacted me to tell me that they''ve finished their 101.

Definitely worth checking out, all you resolution-makers!

What an awesome idea -- Elegant!

My resolutions are to meditate every day for peace of mind.
To go to church more.
To give more love and to be a better person.
I also want to honor my creativity more - through painting, dance, writing or whatever!

My first goal was already accomplished during the last four months. That was to quit buying clothes. I have so many that I cannot wear everything and it''s been such a waste of money, that I won''t go shopping until I need new jeans or spring t-shirts.

Other resolutions:

1) No drinking.
2) Less internet.
3) More time spent doing relaxation techniques/biofeedback. (a hobby I LOVE but cut back since I moved in June.)
4) Find a job that works around my kids'' scheduals.
5) Read more.

do nice things for others just because
find out how to make more money
stop b!tch!ng at my husband

Mine are:

1. Get fit. I have been focussing on my weight, but I want to change that now, as I am still in a healthy weight range, and focus on getting fit and healthy- particularly so that I can go to the Australian Ultimate Frisbee National Tournament in April with the South Australian Women''s team.

2. Improve my relationship with SO, particularly our communication. I am going to organise couples counselling for us.

3. Keep my house tidier! Up until the end of this year I have been so busy with uni and work that I have let it slip. This year my load will be a LOT lighter so I need to focus on this.

4. Less internet! I find it encourages dreaming about what I want to happen instead of making it happen!

5. Get a job (I lost mine a week ago) and work damn hard at it!

Bring on 2009!!!

I am so with you Holly!! I definitely am losing the weight this year.

The 5 Love Languages is one of the most profound relationship books I''ve ever read... you won''t regret putting it into action!

My resolution is to keep my office cleaner! I am REALLY bad about ignoring it because it''s ''out of site out of mind''... NOT GOOD!!!

Thanks! Although, in Australia ultimate isn''t as popular and SA ultimate is quite small, so making the squad isn''t as big a deal as it would be in the US, especially since nationals is being held a million miles away in Perth, but it would be good to achieve nonetheless!
