Here are the dimensions: Maybe you could help better judge by this? (cuz I'm not sure which numbers mean what)

1.70ct has a 1.3HCA (7.64 - 7.70 x 4.75)
1.72ct. has a 1.3HCA (7.66 - 7.68 x 4.76)
1.75ct. has a 1.6HCA (7.70 - 7.74 x 4.81)

I'm do not have the level of expertise that some of the other posters on RT have, but I think that looks like a winning stone. Your girlfriend is insanely lucky to be receiving it! It should be gorgeous in person.

I helped another PSer/in real life friend find a diamond for her engagement ring a couple of years ago and her diamond is blinding in person and is almost identical in angles and %s to yours.

What are you thinking about for a setting?

Thank you both!! I figured I should just do it right the first time. It seems like a pretty great stone, and much better than the stones I were looking at around the 20K range.

I'll be setting it in a Platinum Tacori 2578 (the option with the diamonds all around)

I'll post pics once everything is complete!

G VS1...my personal favorite! Excellent choice!!! :appl:

Thank you for your help! I learned alot of do's and don'ts from you and everyone else on this forum.....and became very more knowledgeable!

Now it's time to get the setting. One more question though....I'd love to get my Tacori setting local so it's easier to deal with future service, cleaning, polishing, etc...in the future. Any way to get a Tacori setting local, yet avoid the taxes???

Sure buy it but have it shipped to the nearest friend or relative that lives out of state. Usually there will only be a 25 dollar fedex charge involved and as you said- no taxes- worked for me!

I prefer getting the stone set by the vendor who sells it whenever possible so they will be covering it in case of damage while setting. If I had known you were going with Tacori, I would have suggested looking at Good Old Gold for the diamond because they sell Tacori.

WOW! Great thinking!! Would that person also technically have to "buy" it also? Are could I pay and ship it out of state?

Wish I'd had known! Out of the dozens of places I looked, I never checked out their site.

Oh gosh! They are excellent and have very high quality stones, too. They carry a lot of designers. I was just trying to help you with the certs you were showing us!

Thanks for all your help though!! I'll keep that in mind for any friends and family.

The stone I did get was almost too good to pass up. The Whiteflash folks went the extra mile with a lot.

I have stones from both WF and GOG and agree that they are both great!!!

It won't work in this case to send the setting out of state because you take or send the diamond to a Tacori vendor and then they send the diamond to Tacori to make the setting to fit your stone and in her ring size. Then Tacori sends it back to your jeweler. Do not under any circumstances let them sell you a sample ring in the case and set it themselves. You want the Tacori ring box and Tacori paperwork. Don't leave the store without that! That way you have a warranty from Tacori, which is important if she ever has any problems with the setting.

Thank you for the tips! An I appreciate the advice on the sample ring..I'll avoid that!! I will definitely make sure When I talk to the local jeweler, i verify the process. So it sounds like the local jeweler is literally just the middle man making the sale.
Well I do know people out of state, so if there is anyway to buy it locally without taxes, please let me know!

That would almost be impossible unless you sent the diamond to an out-of-state jeweler that sells Tacori. Then you'd have the finished ring sent back to you. I don't know whether Good Old Gold would do that or not. In this scenario of having the loose diamond and having someone other than the vendor set it, you probably need to get insurance from Jeweler's Mutual as they will insure the ring while the stone is being set if they have the information on both the stone and setting. You'd need to call them for details.

I really think with the trouble and expense of shipping your stone somewhere, etc., I'd just have it set locally and pay the tax.

I just know with a $7,300 setting, taxes will rape me even more :?
And I already went over budget on a stone.

but......If it's not possible, such is life. I'm sure I'll just end up paying the taxes! Unless the local jeweler is some kind of miracle worker!

Hi Jtoups,

1.3 vs 1.6 on the HCA is irrelevant. The things that will impact appearance between them more than anything is lower half length coupled with upper half cutting and any twist or azimuth deviation between the cutting.

[edited to add] ... oops ... I was stil on page 1 ::) . *Congrats*

:D No problem! Thanks for the help though

FINALLY got my whiteflash diamond in today!!! It really is an amazing stone! I can't stop staring at it, even though it's not in a setting yet!
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2275587.htm

I can't thank all the PS users enough for all the info, hints, tips, feedback, etc....! Without everyone I would have spent alot of money on just an "average" diamond! I think the best advice to give someone is to "take your time!" It's amazing how much you can learn by being patient, asking questions, and thoroughly doing research!

Now it's on to the custom setting!

THANKS GUYS!!

Very exciting!!! :appl: We'll look forward to seeing the finished ring!!!
