I'm going to the appraiser tonight with both these gorgeous stones ... I think I've made my decision unless something is dreadfully wrong with one of them. Tell me what you think:

AGS Cert
May 2001
1.19 H SI1 H&A
6.90-6.92-4.19mm
Table 55%
Depth 60.6%
Crown Angle 34.6
Pav Angle 40.9
Culet Pointed
Flour. None

It scored a 9.8 on the Isee2
1.5 HCA
BrillianceScope - White Light VH, Brilliance, VVH (@the very top), Scint VH.

Pros: Bigger, better Isee2 score
Cons: I can see the yellow tint even without comparison.

AGS Cert
July 2003
1.08 G SI1 H&A
6.67 - 6.72 - 4.05mm
Table 57%
Depth 60.5%
Crown Angle 33.7
Pav Ang. 40.9
Culet Pointed
Flour. none

9.4 Isee2
1 HCA
Brilliance Scope - White Light VH, Brilliance VVH(same as above) Scint VH

Pros: Don't see color.
Cons: Smaller, Isee2 score .4 lower ... should it really be a concern? It's interesting that they score almost exactly the same on the BS but differently on ISee2.

Both are eyeclean from the top and upon quick inspection from the sides too. If anyone tried to stare longer than
10 seconds I'd slap them away anyway.

Please let me know what you think!

You didn't list dimensions (mms), so it's hard to know exactly how much smaller the second one is.

You mentioned you can see the color in the H stone even when viewed by itself. The question is, do you mind it? Some people actually like a warmer look and prefer the slight color.

I don't, so I'd choose the second one.....personally, I'd place more importance on the whiteness than on the small difference in size.

Scores are a great way to separate the performers from the non-performers, but after that, their value is limited. There is probably no appreciate difference to the unaided eye between a 9.8 Isee and a 9.4, or between a 1.0 HCA and a 1.5.

They are both great performers, so pick the one that appeals to your eye more.

I updated with dimensions. To be honest, the yellow does bother me more than I thought it would. I was always sure that I would sacrifice clarity but I've been on the fence about color. Now I have to ask myself the same old question, size or color?

As far as cut goes, they are both gorgeous so I'm splitting hairs. Looking in a softer light the H may seem sparkly but if I didn't have the Isee2 scores I probably wouldn't know any better.

Based on what you've said, I'd definitely vote #2.

Look, it's already going to appear larger than most of the "general population" stones just because it's well cut. There will always be a bigger stone somewhere. It's only a 4% difference in size.

I'd go with the whiter stone.

Thanks for your input, Aljdewey. I'll let you know how it goes!

Get the G one. The faint yellow in stone #1 will drive you crazy.

How did it go with the appraisal. Which stone are you going to get?

Hi Derek! It was a really difficult decision since they were both beautiful but I chose the G. I thought that was tough, now comes the wait.

I promise to post pictures as soon as I have it back and on my finger!

PS I'm sure your fiancee has already found it but if not, tell her to check out www.theknot.com. It's a great resource, especially the messageboards. These girls live and die for wedding planning!

I assumed geoff also agreed on the G? Did the appraisal go well?

im a size girl so I like the bigger one...and you must have REALLY good eyes to see yellow in an H&A H without comparison!! but if that will really bother you, then get the G. it's amazing to me that you can't see any color in G but you can in an H? maybe it's mental? ah well it doesn't matter...if you think you can..you will....so maybe go with the G and just know you got a great looking stone. they both should be lovely.

good luck!

Derek - the appraisal went well. Geoffrey actually said both stones were high SI1, possibly VS2 before seeing the certs. He did prefer the facets on the G but said they were both idea cuts. I think it was more of a personal preference for me more than anything else. It was appraised well over the amount we paid.

Mara - The H was just a little too warm for me. I know that some people like warmth but ultimately I wanted to be as close to the colorless range as possible without breaking the bank. The vendor who sold us the G has a great upgrade policy so maybe down the road I can go a little bigger.
