Hi - posted yesterday with this one, but was just faxed a GIA on one that seems better (second one below). question is how much better and what kind of price difference should I expect? I wasn''t given a price for the second one, but I know it will be under 10k.

1st one:
G, VS2,
6.47 X 6.33 x4.59
1.59
depth 72.5%
table 74%
thin to very thick girdle
polish very good
symmetry good
no florescence
asking about $8,900

2nd one:
1.60
F, VS2
6.59 x 6.4 1x 4.70
depth: 73.3
table: 75
girdle: Med
culet: None
Polish: Very good
Sym: good
No Fluorescence
should be under 10k

Questions - does the second one seem signifigantly nicer? can a value be guessed as to how much nice, money wise?

Many thx! - you guys ''rock''.

Although I'm a noob myself (just purchased mine today!), they both look very similar, with the obvious exception that you're going to be paying for the one notch up in color with the second one. Since the cut %'s you've listed are so close, you probably are at the point where you would need to see them in person or at least get more numbers and an expert opinion.

I think a great cut can let you go a little lower in color (especially with a round with a lot of fire - sort of a distraction technique) but with Princess cuts you need to be very careful. Most of the stuff I looked at locally was complete crap and totally dead... even in that price range, so just be careful, read the cert, and then most importantly look at them in person.

Go to www.gemappraisers.com and you will see the AGA cut grade chart for princess cuts. This might help you out in deciding between the two...

I'm really sorry...but since you asked...I don't like either...

Well, yea... it seems the table % on both are pretty high. Learning from others in this forum (and reading the various cut charts) you should consider depths < 74 %, and you want a table that is a few % smaller than the depth. Also, watch out for those girdles. Just go by the cut charts first and then go from there.
