Hello everyone,

After speaking to my girlfriend it seems she now wants an OVAL- apparently ovals are trending right now and she likes the finger coverage they provide. Can anyone help me find a 2 carat, H color or higher, eye clean (S12 is fine) as long as the inclusions are not reaching the surface/no black carbon spots/ inclusions visible with loupe or hidden by prongs/setting only. She plans to get a halo micro-pave setting.
She is most looking for an oval that has crisp facets ( no mush/ only larger flashes of sparkle) & minimizing bowtie as much as possible. She prefers a chubbier oval ( Ratio 1.37-1.45) and is looking for a nice spready diamond as her finger size is 3.5
The budget for the stone is around 14k.

Any oval experts? Please help :)

Hi OP - I suggest you contact Yekutiel at ID Jewelry. He can help you to find what you're looking for and within your budget. He's a full service jeweler and can make the ring for you as well. I, as well as many other PS'rs have used him - he's honest and easy to work with. Good luck

A quick look through the inventory at JA & BN suggests that you may have to relax your specs or increase your budget. Only a small fraction of ovals will have crisp facets with minimal mush and minimal bowtie. And among those, only a small fraction of SI2 graded diamonds will be eye clean. Even for H-SI1, your budget would have to be closer to $16k to get a reasonably sized pool of candidates to sift through.

That being said, here is one priced $14,760 that meets most of your criteria:

One reason that this stone is not too far above your budget is that a lot of its weight is hidden in the very/extremely thick girdle. This means that its spread (visual size) is smaller than expected for a 2-ct diamond. You and your gf should think about (and let us know) whether it is more important to you to hit the "magic" 2.00 carat number, or to have a spreadier (larger looking) center stone that weighs a bit less than 2.00 ct.

As a point of comparison, here is another oval that meets your specs (including the 2-ct weight):

The spread of this one is 14% larger than the spread of the first one, and consequently it is more expensive ($15,390).

P.S. As I mentioned, this is based on a quick look through the available inventory -- I did not do an exhaustive search. Perhaps another PSer will find some additional options for you.

Thanks for all your input everyone I am open to increasing the budget to 16k- it will eat into the setting budget but that's okay if it means a better stone. My gf is fine with a spreadier diamond, doesn't necessarily have to hit the magic 2ct number.
