2.5 Carrat Fancy Intens Yellow needs ring?

I got a great deal on this yellow diamond and it's exactly what we want and can afford. However, I'm having trouble picking out a design. We have had an cad guy design us a ring and we still can't come up with a design that is elegant and you know would just work.

So i took her advise and had him put in all the features that she wanted... Surely this would be the most amazing ring ever.
Wrong, she hated it.

So now I want to post these pictures for discussion and want to ask everybody on how i could make this ring better.

PLEASE hit me up with any suggestions and pictures that you can think would be inspirational.

Clip the corners of the square. It looks too hard. I love the side scrollwork.

Does she realize that CAD drawings always look clunky and that the actual milgrain work would be much softer?

Version 1:


This is the original design that she doesn't like. She thinks it's a man ring.
Also what I don't like about this one is the fact that it has too much stuff. Is there such a thing as too many Daiamands. She wants them on the side and on the split shank, etc.

So I did a second attempt and got rid of a lot "sparkly sparkly"

This to me looks a lot more elegant. I haven't dared to show her this rendering.


Version 2:


I've gotten comments from her friends that suggest that I should make the band of white diamonds not as thick... and ad one row of diamonds on the split shank again. I agree that i need to trim down the border and I might be subconsciously thinking a NFL ring is attractive. Which do you like better. Version 1 or version 2 with a smaller border of white diamonds.

Before I go pay for a third cad drawing. I want to make sure I have the best input.









 
Here are some comments on how I would like to change the ring:


top View:


I like the shape of the top view, this is a lot better then the first setting we had. The hexagonal form works a lot better than the square.

However, I now realize that the 3 sets of diamonds is too thick. For the David Yurman Model I liked, 3 rows is ok, because their polished stone is so big. But for this smaller sized diamond, i''m a little afraid it actually makes the diamond look smaller. Just judging by the picture, I feel 1,5 diamonds would be thick enough and more proportionate. I know that One and a half is not solution. So, I''m wondering if you could do 1 set of a slightly larger diamond size.

Keep the slope of the surface and have the corners defined by the 2 diamonds from each row that touch. I''m also assuming that the David Yurman Model was using micropave (i can''t tell in this picture). With a slightly bigger row of diamonds i would like to go back to the first rendering where the diamonds where prong set. The border will still round off to the edge.

(Optional: Having a slightly larger diamond on the top and bottom rows, could accentuate the rectangular axis of the piece. With a border this thick and uniform the diamond comes across more square then the first rendering. I also realize that putting larger diamonds on top and bottom will affect the slope of the surface the diamonds sit upon. I''m ok with having a slope that is less steep on the top and bottom then on the sides (again this will give the piece a more rectangular and elongated look) However, this option should be minor and barely noticeable to the untrained eye.

I really like how we opened up the ring and got rid of the curly swirls in the middle. I like how the white diamonds slope up and the yellow pops out above the other stones. The round edge between the platinum and the diamonds works really well. The V-shape of the Split shank is perfect. The commencement of the split at 60 degrees looks a lot better.

Perspective:

I''m getting a feeling that there is to much weight in the platinum. I would like to lessen this in 3 ways.

1) Adjust the Thickness of the ring and the shanks themselves. Make them look lighter.



Side Right:

2) Put ONE row of diamonds on each shank. This means we are going back to the original concept of diamonds on the split shank. But not on the sides of the split shank like in version one. Have the diamonds prong set and open on the sides so they can be seen. Absolutely no channel set.

(Optional: As the shank gets wider as it gets closer to the top of the ring, insert a slightly larger diamond).

Not sure if the shank should have that line in the middle. The first version did not have it. Putting a row of diamonds on should be enough. Although something inside of me say that the a-symetry of diamonds on one side and smooth platinum on the other might be kinda cool.



3) Reduce the size of the Mounting (a little bit)

Since we are already reducing the size, by reducing the Lip of diamonds surrounding the yellow diamond, I would like to reduce the size of the mounting just a little more. Not by much... just as long as it stays proportionate. I think the main dimension that might get affected are the width and the height.
 
Please don''t take this wrong but there are so many rings exactly in that style, only done so much more delicately. Is there a reason you are sort of reinventing the wheel? Both of the renderings are starting to look a lot like superbowl rings

yeah, with the many layers of stones in this halo this is looking very rap star. i know that cads look heavy but this would not be my direction for a setting with this stone.

i think you want a very minimal halo around the stone - both smallish melee stones in the halo and also maybe softened somehow - not perfectly square at the same level as the center stone - maybe slightly lower or tilted outside instead of flat, with rounded corners?

Also, I would love to see yellow gold used somewhere in the ring to really draw out the yellow of the center diamond. I get using "white" (clear) diamonds somewhere in the design - maybe on the halo - to contrast with the yellow, but even though I am not a huge yellow gold fan I think the stone warrents it. Is your girlfriend open to using yellow gold somewhere in the design or does she want all platinum?

Have you seen Heidi Klum''s ring? I think that is a fabulous inspiration ring for this stone.

Last, please be sure you have seen other examples of this jeweler''s work and that he can execute something of the appropriate delicateness and style that you want. There are other jewelers and stock settings to consider if you are not happy with his aesthetic or confident in his skills.

I think it looks masculine.

CADS are always a bit bulkier but...I think a halo and split shank of a more delicate nature would be great.

I really like that last split shank that neverendingupgrade posted. It seems to incorporate the things you''re looking for, yet it maintains a delicate and feminine feel. I agree with what some others have said that the cads are looking masculine to me.

I'm with purrfect and the others on this one - you said you had a "cad guy" do these images - is he a jewellery designer recommended to you?
Just because, as you can see with the images NEU posted, it shouldn't be that hard to nail.
I think you've been given some nice ideas that match your needs - can you go back with these pics?
 
I agree with your softened white halo... it''s a lot simpler then my second drawing.

In regards to using gold in the ring. I am thinking of having gold prongs for the center stone of 14 or 18 carrats for strength. She doesn''t want a bezel, so it''s definitely gold prongs. Underneath the diamond I would like to have a basket of 22 k gold to help reflect through some more yellow light.

I''ve attached an example that we first drew up with the cad guy that had a kind of fancy gold decoration on the side. I rejected this because i think it''s to much clutter. I''m starting to appreciate simple lines.

However, this brings up a GREAT question...

SHOULD I ALLOW FOR LIGHT to get to the YELLOW diamond from the side and/or bottom. Or should I encapsulate the diamond completely?

Currently the Diamond is Fancy Intense in color and the GIA grading clearly indicates some large spots of Fancy Vivid in the middle.

If I should allow for more light to access the diamond from the side, I wouldn''t mind putting some gold touches to that feature. However I think I feel the lines should be simple and not come across to costume jewelry like.

I really like purrrfects first picture, a very unique approach. I wonder if it would work well with yellow. I have already taken every picture with me... however, never endings last picture seems to be the one that resembles my stone the most... It also looks great from on top.

Or you cant go wrong with the Tiffany Legacy and make your own Legacy inspired ring!

eh.. Having trouble uploading... Just do a search for that ring... You should be able to get tons on shots from all angles

Honestly, I would hate the ring that your CAD guy came up with as well. It''s too bulky. I think your other half may be looking for a ring similar that the ladies have posted. Something that fits the description of halo, split shank. The ladies here have posted very beautiful alternatives which I think you lady will love..

The stone is lovely and the idea is very very nice, but I think a more delicate setting would WOW more!!!!
