Hello,
We went to a wholesaler and I'm interested in buying this ring. It's a 2.19 round diamond, I color, S12, Excellent cut for 17,000. I've included a pic (from a phone) of the ring.

Good deal? Nice diamond? Thanks for your help!!!

really can't tell from the tiny pic or the lack of info. Do you know the depth %, table %, crown and pavillion angles? Do you or can you get an idealscope image? and do you have better pictures?

is the stone graded by GIA?

Is this pic better?

yes, it's better, but we still need the other information to give you a half decent response.

GIA?

I do know it's graded by GIA. I will find out the other dimensions tomorrow. The wholesale is a family friend so I'm hoping this is a good deal. Thanks!

Any other questions I should ask besides depth and table % and crown and pavilion angles? Thanks for the link. I'm feeling a little confused because this is supposed to be a "good deal".

If it's too good to be true, it is.

Crown ANGLE, pavilion ANGLE, table %, depth are bare minimum you need to ask, along with grading house (i.e. GIA or AGS). If you come with less info, it's pretty pointless. :wavey:

The GIA report number would be especially helpful so we can see if there are any red flags.

Thanks ladies I'll be back Wed. He did my parent's ring and is a family friend but it's such a big choice I want to make sure everything is right!

I know that this is a generalization, but I once read on a ps thread " never buy from family or friends". It makes sense if you think about past experiences, but like I said, it's not always the case!!!! Buyer beware....

yup, rule #1 when it comes to buying a diamond.. ::)

No such thing as a wholesaler. The stone looks pretty but i agree with all the PS ers . A stone this size would be best acommpanied with a GIA certificate. They are the Kind of diamonds. You should be looking for an excellent cut with excellent polish and excellent symmetry.

Ideal cut rounds should fall in the following stats

table 54-58
Deptth 60-62.3
crown angle 34-35
girdle thin to medium
pavilion angle 40.6-41.0
pavilion depth 41.7-44.8

Ladies I have the certificate. Please advise.

Carat Weight 2.19
Color Grade I
Clarity Grade S12
Cut grade Excellent

Finish
Polish- Excellent
Symmetry-Excellent
Fluorescence None

Measurements 8.33-8.35 x 5.14 mm

Hard to read the cert. What are the:
Table? Depth? crown? pavilion?

More stats

I would ask for some more options. The HCA gives it a 4.0. You should try and find a diamond that has a score under 2.

Here's the link for the HCA:

I see. Thank you! This has been confusing and I never knew there was so much involved in picking out a diamond. We just want to be engaged! But obviously want to make sure our money is going to the best possible choice. It's hard to know what to look for. Have you ever seen success with blue nile?
