I'm having trouble reading the numbers on the GIA cert. What's the crown angle, pavilion angle, table, and depth? Does it score below 2 on the HCA? If so, can you get an Idealscope?

More info. Thank you!

The crown is a bit high...but I'd still want to see an idealscope to be able to tell you for sure one way or the other....

How do I go about doing that? Do I just request from the jeweler?

yeah, although most jewelers don't have them, but you can ask and see if yours does. If not, I would buy one (they're not expensive) and look at it myself. But I'd do that before buying it.

Thank you. I never knew how confusing this process was! Have you ever heard of success buying online like bluenile?

There's been success...but I wouldn't recommend them because they don't provide aset or idealscope images. I'd stick with james allen, whiteflash, good old gold or ID Jewelry. They all provide the things you need in order to make a well informed decision about the stone you're going to buy.

This doesn't look so promising - it might be in person, but with an HCA of 4 you can definitely do better. And look at that inclusion plot - that scares me. Not to say it's not eye clean... it could be... but unlikely.

Thanks for all the advice. My boyfriend and I are anxious to get engaged as we are going down to Mexico soon to pick up a venue. If there are any recommendations out there for close to a 2. round diamond. Please let me know!

I'd suggest this:

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/2.11-carat-i-color-si2-clarity-sku-204550

It scored a .7 on the HCA which is GREAT!!! And it's the same size as the one you were considering (as far as the mm), and JA offers PS members a discount. I'd put this on hold ASAP and request an idealscope and also find out what discount they're giving on this stone.

And PS - in regards to it only being a "very good" for the symmetry, but that's what's helping keeping the price lower and it's cut beautifully and performs better than some "excellent" cut stones...so I really wouldn't pay too much attention to any comments stating this stone isn't good enough because of that.

JA also has a great upgrade policy. The stone below only scored a 2.5 on the HCA and has leakage in the center. It's far too deep so it's going to face up smaller than it should..

That GOG stone is beautiful. I would check that one out.

Thank you! I'm chatting with James allen now. The other stone is out of our range as 17,000 is the highest we want to go. Are there any specifics I should ask besides the IS?
