Hi,

A while back I posted here, looking for feedback on a custom setting. Well things are finally underway and off to a good start. However, I'm starting to get into the details and welcome any feedback anyone is offering. I'm trying to decide on things like:

1. Continue the engraving all the way around the face (sketch), or stop 1/2 way down like the original ring?
2. Go with the slight wrap around engraving,(which I'm very much leaning towards) or extend the sidestones further down with no engraving.

As for the stone, the hunt is still on, so I'll post pics as soon as I have it. It's going to be a Cushion, Old Mine Brilliant. L/W 1.10. My specs are pretty specific, so it's proving to be harder to locate than I had originally thought. You know what they say though...that whole "good things come" bit. :)

I'm not going to post pictures of the top view just yet, we are still working that out. Stay tuned!

Seems like a long time ago:

Wow, that''s a gorgeous inspiration ring, and I''m sure your custom ring is going to be beautiful as well. Are you going to get a matching engraved wedding band? If so, I think I''d go for engraving all around the face, but 1/2 way is nice too, it''s hard to decide isn''t it?

I also like the idea of wrapping the engraving as opposed to adding more stones. Might depend also on ring size and finger coverage though. I love engraved rings! I can''t wait to see this one!

1. With the original ring, I like the engraving stopping at the point it does. The new ring with a perfect circle, I would prefer the engraving continued all the way around. I do not like when engraving or stones stop leaving a few mm for sizing (to me it looks unfinished), to that I would prefer 1/2 or 3/4 around.

2. I love the wrap around engraving. I am totally into bling and love extra diamonds, but for that ring, I love the few stones on the side and the engraving wrapping up around to the top- it looks "more designed" if that makes any sense. The side engraving detail does not take away from the side stone detail- both are clearly seen and the antique style is consistently throughout the ring.

Both beautiful rings. Seriously, one of the prettiest styles I''ve seen.

Thank you for the comments, I wll definitely post pictures when it''s all done!

Very beautiful design! And I agree, I love the engraving all the way around!

Looks beautiful so far! I am excited to see the finished ring!

It certainly is!

To be honest I haven't even thought about wedding bands, one thing at a time.

Yeah, that inspiration ring really jumped off the page when first found it, and I looked at hundreds of rings! Gotta love this website!

The inspiration ring is an incredible piece, one of my favorites on PS! I am sure you are in good hands with Greenlake and a model such as that. Here is what I think:
-Having had 2 kids myself (with all the weight gain/loss that accompanies it), I would absolutely recommend that you stop the engraving at 3/4 for resizing ease. It is a shame to have to break the lines of the engraving or even worse NOT WEAR THE RING if she needs to have the ring resized at some point.
-I love the wrap-around engraving the way it is drawn. I wouldn''t change a thing or add more side stones! Lovely! Can''t wait to see the top and how those prongs wrap around.

Alley, thanks for the suggestions and feedback. I too love the crisscross prong detail, it''s something we knew we wanted to work in. I wil post more sketches when I have them!

Thanks for the idea Alley. Her ring is pretty amazing.

Does anyone else have any comments

well since you asked.....

i like the engraving going 3/4 around as it is on the original, even though your shank is rounded. also much more practical and that always appeals to me (IOW it doesn''t take away from the design at all to go 3/4 rather than all the way around, so the practical side of me that knows resizing would most likely be needed at some would would just opt for 3/4).

i love the top view just as it is! in fact, i just ordered a ring that does exactly the same thing, 3 or 4 diamonds down the shank then engraving, and it looks great. plently of sparkle and dazzle, less stones to worry about, and the stones stop before they go between the fingers where they''d just get dirty and wouldn''t really show anyway. the engraving makes it hard to distinguish where the diamonds stop too, which is nice. so once again, a compromise between dazzle and practical wins out for me.

just my .02, and nothing new!

Oh WOW, I simply can NOT wait to see this beauty finished! It''s going to be stunning! There''s definately something to be said for leaving a bit of room for resizing..........(this from the owner of a full eternity band.......hey, we all have little second thoughts later on.)

Rainydaze - Thanks! I''m starting to lean towards the 3/4 face engraving, nice to have options down the road.

Jenn - I can''t wait to see it as well! I''m still looking for the stone though, that''s going to be the hardest part!

My vote would also be for the 3/4 engraving to allow for sizing... once she has the ring on you wouldn''t see the part that''s not engraved.

I''m not a big fan of engraved rings BUT the inspiration ring is very pretty and I think your designed ring will look amazing... be sure to post pics.

Good luck with the Diamond Hunt!

Will do, thanks mirre. Next step will be the CAD, followed by a wax mold.

I love your sketches!!! I would go with 70-90% engraving so you can re-size later, but the plain part won''t show if the ring spins.

MA''s ring is one of my favorites! I think it is PERFECT the way it is. I also agree with Alley. Being 9 months preggo myself my finger size is almost 1.5 sizes LARGER than before (granted I am hoping it will go back once I lose the 200 lbs I gained

) Regardless it IS something to think about. I can''t wait to see the finished ring. Greenlake rings ARE a work of art for sure.

I agree with everyone else for 3/4 engraving -- leaving a small sizing bar in the back. My ering is very similar to this design & has a small sizing bar.

Have to say -- don''t love the cross-over prongs. They look "wormy" for lack of a better word.

Thanks Deco. Definitely leaning towards the 3/4 engraving.

As for the corssover prongs, I''m trying to go for a basket look. This was just a first sketch, when I get to the CAD stage I can start tweaking.
