1940s mens gold wedding band

I found my grandpa's gold wedding band from the 1940s and was going to have it resized to wear as my wedding band for my upcoming wedding in September. I doubt it is worth much as they were very frugal, and it says 4K on the inner band (which I believe is relatively inexpensive), but wanted to see if anyone can confirm.

4k gold would be 4 parts gold to 20 parts other metal (4 out of 24 total), so less than 20% of gold. Not every country allows this to be sold as "gold", since it contains so little gold by volume but I am not sure of American regulations. Are the numbers clear or worn away? If they aren't very legible, might it be 14k and the "1" simply worn away? 14k is much more common.

Before you have it resized, try to wear it around the house for a few hours to be sure you don't react to whatever metal is in the alloy. Also, make sure to tell the person resizing that it is 4k. It probably has a much lower melting point than usual, which could lead to a disaster. Of course, they should check this before starting the job but I believe in being safe rather than sorry, specially with such an irreplaceable piece.
