Posting this because I know some of us have a thing for these older settings that need a little love. This was my first full restoration and it turned out really well. I have a few other antique settings and ideas, so I'm excited that DK did such a good job, and reasonably priced too.

I came across this 1930's palladium setting on Etsy and could not get it out of my mind. I really like palladium, but it's not as easy to find. The same shop happened to have a light yellow asscher cut moissanite that fit it. It was a pretty stone and gave me something to put in it for now. So I bought both.

I thought it would look better with pointy tabs and claw prongs on the singlecut sidestones. This is the mock up I sent to David.

In no time at all, I had these glamour shots in my inbox:

And yesterday, this beauty arrived:

Eventually I plan to switch out the center, to something vibrantly colored, like this mahenge garnet, but for now I'm loving this sunny ring!

Wow, what a great eye you have, I wouldn't have thought to change the shape of the prongs on the main stone but it really looks great. It goes so well with your other bands too, what a beauty :kiss2:

Looking at the empty setting I never would have imagined how pretty it could be!! Excellent job! I love the asscher moissanite, it looks right at home in there!

Thank you all for the compliments! I just wanted to share this experience /experiment(?) . I took a chance, not sure how or even if it would work out, but DK nailed it so perfectly! :kiss2:

This is a gorgeous restoration! I had no idea that DK did restorations. I have two antique settings that need some love. I'll be sending them his way.

Love it! Forgive the ignorant question, but do you prefer palladium to platinum? If so, why? :read:
I have a palladium ring and it looks much more dark, almost steely compared to my platinum rings. But it could be precision, alloys, etc.

@FlashyFlamingo I had seen some restorations he did here and there in the past, but really didn't know if he still did any. He did used to sell antique jewelry, so I know he's familiar with it. I bought the setting and the stone and then crossed my fingers and sent an email to him. He rebuilt 13 of the prongs, shaped all of them, added .20 ct of G/VS singlecut diamonds, set 5 stones, and sized the ring up (from 5.5 to 5.75), and polished it . All for $325.00 !!! I couldn't believe it. Definetly send pics and be clear what you are wanting him to do. It was less than 2 weeks turnaround.

@anangel I have a nickel allergy, so white gold is out. I hate plating. Hate it. The palladium white golds are super white , no plating and nickel free, but I'm not a fan of the chromy white look. So for me that leaves platinum and palladium. I like the slight greys of both. Between the two, I prefer platinum for the weight. But I have no qualms buying and wearing palladium, I like it!
