I just received this very cool piece and wanted to share and also see if anyone knows anything about its history. It is 18k and I think it is ‘bloomed gold’ because it has a matte finish. There is a 5.4-5.5mm, approx 0.6ct old European or mine cut diamond. It’s slightly off round and has a large culet so maybe it’s an old mine cut. The sparkle and fire are amazing.

I’m guessing it dates back to 1900 but not sure. I think the bail was added later. It weighs 9.4 grams!

Here are some photos. I might actually wear this often. It’s big but not obnoxious. Let me know what you think.

Wow. This is absolutely gorgeous!!

Oh it's so gorgeous in that yellow gold!

That is very special indeed! I hope you wear it often!

I don't know anything about it, sorry. But it's spectacular! :kiss2:

This is lovely!

I love convertible jewellery, and this is lovely, thanks for sharing!

Even if the bail is not original, I love that they added it as a flip down so it can hide when you wear it as a brooch. Great fire!

please can we see it worn as a brooch =)2

Ha! I have been wearing it as a pendant and I haven’t even considered trying it on as a brooch other than holding it up for about 2 seconds. I have a couple of other brooches that aren’t convertible that I don’t wear. One is my belle epoque sapphire brooch that I really need to add a bail to so I can wear it.

I will try it today or tomorrow and send you a photo but my usual work from home and weekend outfits involve a tank top and hoodie so I’m not sure that will do it justice. Somehow I managed to pull it off as a pendant with that same outfit though! I really need to get out more…I love my jewels but it takes so much energy to just get dressed up to go out to dinner. Hair and makeup and deciding what to wear now that my closet is an archive after the pandemic.

It’s really pretty. You have long hair? If you wear your hair up in a bun or ponytail, you could attach the brooch to an elastic and wear it in your hair. I’ve worn a brooch in my hair and it’s a great way to do them justice while wearing casual clothes.

I do that too!
