Also from the pawn shop today......
This item is a silver toddy ladle set with a Queen Anne 4 pence dated 1713.
I didn't know what it was, and neither did the pawn shop guys. I took some photos of it, and went home to research. Then I saw that the coin is dated 1713!
When I realized what it was, I rushed back to get it, along with the French cicada brooch in another thread.
The ladle would've had a long handle possibly made of ivory, wood or baleen (from whales).
It also has a monogram JWW.
I think it's really cool!

What an amazing find, @stracci2000!
A toddy ladle - what kind of toddy do you think would have been served with it? The kind from coconut or the kind with whiskey? It has colonial vibes.

Good question! Maybe rum?
Here's an article about toddy

I can imagine it being used to warm up brandy or other spirits over a flame, then lit and pour over pancakes or other sweet treats etc...

I just can't help myself when I see unusual things like this. I'll be adding it to my shelf of sterling baby cups, porringers, weird spoons, toothpick holders, etc!

Probably, but when I looked at it it reminded me of a tastevin, so I'd probably sip wine out of it :mrgreen2: (although I know that's not what it is).

I thought it was a tastevin too!
That's why I was intrigued.
These are the two tastevins that I have.
The one with the snake is Mexican, and the other is French. IMG_20230423_084203481~2.jpg

I have one too, just the free one they give you at the Marche in Beaune. I wish it were silver.

I love it!
Aren't they interesting?
And I don't even drink!
