What is the difference between 14kt and 18kt gold with regard to quality and price?

Why is 18kt more expensive and is it really worth it????

14 karat gold contains 58.3% pure gold (marked 585 or 14k) and 18 karat contains 75% pure gold (marked 750 or 18k).

18 karat has a deeper yellow look while 14 karat is a much lighter yellow color.

You must remember that 18 karat is more costly by weight because it has a higher gold content. But it also weighs more too! So when you multiply the higher cost by weight and weight is more you can see why it is more expensive.

I really like the color of 18 karat, but that is a personal choice.

Yes there is white gold. It comes out of the ground yellow and remember that 18 karat is 75% yellow gold and 25% alloy. It is the 25% white alloys used that makes the gold look white. After some wear it will have a slight yellow tint to it when compared to platinum, if you don't compare it you may never see it.

Also white gold is more brittle than yellow or platinum, prongs wear well but the can be broken instead of bending a little more easily.
