I've read so many mixed things regarding whether or not 18k white gold appears more yellowish than 14k white gold. Is this true since it's more pure? Should I go with the 14k for a whiter ring in addition to saving money? Or is the 18k a better buy since it is in fact purer? I want the ring to be as white as possible.

Thanks guys!

How about platinum which is a white metal and doesn't have to be plated?

I was talking to a Blue Nile consultant about this subject just a few days ago. She told me that essentially, 14 k will stay whiter longer as it has less yellow gold in the mix, but they (14 & 18k) are plated to the same degree. My personal preference is platinum, but it's quite a lot more expensive.

A white gold alloyed with palladium … Stuller's X1 white gold … probably others … stay white and don't need plating. David Klass has a white, white gold, too.

I prefer platinum too but it can look to have a slight gray tint to it over time. I think the white gold mixed with palladium is very white and seems to hold its whiteness. I have a 14k white gold ring made by David and it has stayed very white.
