I've been on PS for several years, been through a marriage and divorce, and now have been in a relationship for the past 8 months with the most wonderful person I've ever met. We truly bring out the best in each other and want to spend the rest of our days together.
After living separately and somewhat long distance (about a 30 minute drive) for 7.5 months, we have decided to combine households and we moved in together. It hasn't been much of an adjustment since we've spent every weekend (with the exception of one) together and one or two weeknights since September when we met. We've talked about marriage and children since October, we've looked at rings together, I had a gown chosen last fall, etc. Family and friends on both sides are very supportive and encouraging of our relationship, and the only thing that could make us happier at this point would be making it legal and then starting a family.
The ring will be a complete and total surprise. He knows what I like, and he has a pretty extensive knowledge of diamonds/gemstones/jewelry from doing some benchwork of his own as a hobby. He "let it slip" last month that it had been in process of being designed since last fall. He told me once that he has no issues with upgrading (his comment, not provoked by anything I said at all) but that it was very important to him that the ring and proposal be a surprise and something orchestrated solely by him. I am on the same page about all of that. I'll be 33 next week, and in the past few years have become far less stringent and less in need to try to control absolutely everything in life. I used to hate surprises, but I've let go of a lot of my fears and have embraced the fact that life can be taken as it comes and it is full of beautiful and positive things. So for me, the element of surprise here is just as huge as it is to him and I'm so ecstatic that we will get to relish it all together.
I think there is a slight timeframe, but I have never asked him point blank when he thinks he will propose--again, I want it to be a surprise that we will both enjoy to the fullest! He told me several weeks ago that he wants us to get passports and start planning a trip to Mexico in October. I don't want to speculate but maybe I should at least think about budgeting for a gown and shoes soon, ha!
I look forward to my stay on LIW with all of you! Pretty exciting times and I plan to savor every bit of them.
