10mm sapphire on size 8 finger HELP

Hi all!

Yesterday, after months of searching, I FINALLY found my dream sapphire. My only concern is that the stone in combination with the design elements I’m searching for won’t fit on my finger. I’ve been googling to find similar stones on size 8 fingers to no avail.

Specs:
• cushion cut
• 9.89mm x 8.45mm x 7.26 mm (will probably have it cut down since that’s a big ol booty and I need something more low profile)
• 5.75ct (currently)

I’m sharing photos with the stone (on my jeweler’s smaller finger) and examples of similar design elements.

Please share photos of similar size and advice!

Waiting on the design, but here’s the combination of design elements:
**Edwardian trefoil milgrain diamond side accents, milgrain band, decorative milgrain bezel, may or may not require prongs**

This isn't an oval or a CS but my center is 10mm add a mm or 2 for the channel. Finger is 7+ but 2nd shot is on my size 8 finger. Hope this helps. The upshot of a big finger is big gems!

Thank you so much! I may actually be a 7.5-7.75 (my temporary ER is an 8 and a little loose), but since my hands swell often it might be better to stick with the 8. The photo really does help! Thank you!

That isn't a huge size for a gemstone at all, get a good jewellery to angle the leaves down and it should fit just fine without recutting anything...

Thank you for the info! I’ve obviously never bought anything like this before, so I just feel the need to check with several people beforehand!

Also, I just learned about Multicolour. I found 2 sapphires with the color profile I’m looking for (posted below), but I’m curious about y’all’s opinions on the site.

The stone I shared in the OP, along with the setting, will cost $3,500.

My jeweler is open to working with outside stones, so that won’t be an issue.

Here's a 15.97x11.19x8.01 on a size 7 finger, with setting it's 19.6mm wide.

Those are not particularly well cut to my eye. That second is going to be almost black once set. I'm concerned the stone you picked is overly dark and will look closer to black as well once set.

I have a blue sapphire that is 10.7 x 8.80. My ring finger is a 6.75 without swelling.

I don't think it will be too large at all. 717540

I don't know your budget, but this is similar in color to your ring you liked, I thin, but monitors vary. These are just other options that I think are nicer than the Multicolor site ones.

It looks like it won't be quite as dark.

A little smaller, but maybe an option.

Hi y’all! I wasn’t getting notifications to the post for some reason. Thank you for the examples and alternatives!

@elizat I totally understand your concern the stone will look too dark/black. Is it strange though that I’m alright with that? Unfortunately the alternatives you offered are pretty much our entire budget with the exception of the 2nd. They’re all really lovely stones! I suppose my hesitation is that I can’t know just how much a stone will darken in a setting, because I’ve been trying to avoid a light teal that favors blue. It’s just not me. In natural light, the one I chose is definitely mostly green. I’ll attach a screenshot of the video of it on its own rather than next to an indigo stone under fluorescent light. It’s super blurry but I think you can see the hue well enough.

My partner did purchase the stone/custom order this morning. I’ll be back to let you all know how it works out! I’m excited and a bit nervous because after picking the stone, my partner will be confirming the design and finishing the process himself. I’ve been VERY specific about what I want though!

If it’s not too late, have a look at Bespoke Gems here in Australia (shipping to the US is easy and the US dollar buys heaps of Aussie dollars). Doug is the cutter.
I suggest this because if it’s a green hued sapphire you’re looking for, Australian sapphires have this trait. Doug has quite a few listed in different cuts and carat weights. He is a lovely guy to deal with.

This one was sourced in Australia! I wonder why the Australian jeweler I spoke with about looking for a green-teal stone didn’t tell me that hahaha.

Small update! My jeweler went ahead and slightly cut down the stone to clean up the shape. She explained that it was a bit lopsided before (hell I didn’t notice), but now is a more perfected and symmetrical cushion.

The original specs were 5.75ct. 9.89mm x 8.45 x 7.26mm.

Now it’s 5.15ct, 9.5mm x 8.20 x 7.26.

She’s giving me the option whether or not I want the pavilion cut down, but I’m leaning towards no.

Here’s a photo of the cleaned up stone as well as a photo of the depth of the pavilion.
