Hi everyone! This is my first post here and I have to say that this site is amazing!

So, for my 1yr anniversary, my husband purchased an antique style (if the mounting is antique, I don''t know, I know it is old and hand made) but the diamond in it is a 100+ year old diamond. I am waiting for the cert from the jeweler but wanted to get more information on the diamond.

The cut of the diamond is very different then I have seen. It''s a round but rather than the table of the diamond being very flat with small, thin facets cut for the crown, like round diamonds that we see today, the side facets are longer and slope upwards to make the crown so the table is smaller than it should be.

Here are a couple of pictures to help because I am sure that I am not describing it correctly. Does anyone know the name of the cut? Is it just a round? Is there any significance to a time period of the way it''s cut to help place when the diamond is from?

And/or any information on this kind of diamond or know where I can go to get more? I''m sure trying to find information on such an old diamond is going to be difficult.

Thank you in advance for all of your help!

From the bottom right photo, it looks like a rose cut...but there are tons of antique-cut lovers around here, so I''m sure someone who is more informed will jump in. Can you get any more macro pics of the stone with its face up?

In the meantime, just wanted to say what a beautiful ring!

Looks like an Old Mine Cut to me. Rose cuts have a pointed table and flat bottom. This has the classic small table, high crown of an early mine or euro cut.

I don''t see them either....?

Could you repost them? It sounds beautiful!

That is a neat design. That will be an awesome rhr. Love it. Erica knows her stuff, so I am going with whatever she says.
