10 mm round Amethyst, what do you think?

Hi all, so I found this 10 mm deep purple round amethyst stone in my mother's "treasure chest." She passed away and I do not know what this is worth or if I should have it set or sell it. Any ideas on how I go about finding out about this stone's value. A colleague (ex jeweler) said this is real and very well cut. Any suggestions on how to research? Thanks all!

I think you should keep and set it, especially since it was in your mom's treasure chest. It's windowed and amethysts aren't generally worth a lot of money so it doesn't really make sense to sell it, IMO. Maybe $50-$100? The colored stones folks would know more, you should ask the mods to move the thread.

Yes, amethysts are very inexpensive stones. But it is a lovely color and has sentimental value, so I'd certainly set it!
